The Job

Working independently and with a small, focused team to build and enhance the many applications necessary to deploy, support, and administer large scale video delivery systems.
Design, implement, and test web services or microservices, primarily in Python.
Implement end-user features in both web and mobile applications.
Design and implement robust data storage and retrieval mechanisms against a variety of technologies, including Redis and MySQL.
Develop and maintain interfaces with our machine learning and advanced AI systems.
Working with and supporting other technical team members.
Working with business teams to develop and maintain business critical applications.
Working with international teams to develop cloud-deployed software systems.

It isn’t good enough that you have a “high skills match” or “like the tech stack”. Meeting the minimum qualifications listed below represents the absolute minimum, and simply having a high skills match may not get you to an interview.

We are seeking a talented developer with strong ownership and experience in building mission critical systems. In exchange for a high amount of autonomy, you will be expected to have spent years building reliable, performant production software, monitoring the results, and being highly accountable for the decisions you’ve made. University programs and internships alone don’t represent this kind of experience. We’re a startup, things change quickly, technology changes quickly, and you’ll need a high amount of mental flexibility if you are to thrive.

Additionally, we’re a fully remote team, so you will need to be an excellent communicator, both written and verbal.

This is truly a Full Stack Developer position, React on the front ends (we have several core UIs), and Python on the back end, riding on MySQL. In addition, we’ll be adopting another programming language this year to round out areas where Python isn’t the right tool; a low technology bias is required. The successful candidate will be expected to own the development of a feature from beginning to end, supported by their peers, QA, and product as necessary.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience coding in Python in commercial, production deployments
3+ years of experience creating DDL and DML in an RDBMS system, ideally MySQL
5+ years experience using React or React Native in commercial, production deployments
5+ years of experience using HTML and CSS
5+ years of experience coding in JavaScript or TypeScript
Strong understanding of common UI development patterns, such as MVP, MVC, MVVM, etc
Strong understanding of software development best practices, such as SOLID principles or DDD
Strong proficiency in unit and integration testing
Strong knowledge of web programming specifics and experience in building cloud-native applications
Strong Linux skills
Strong debugging and analysis skills
Experience designing and implementing web services, especially for facilitating interaction among multiple systems
Experience integrating with third party services
Experience with message queuing concepts
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Exposure to machine learning is a plus
Familiarity with other languages, such as C# or Java is a plus
Excellent teamwork skills
Excellent communication skills and fluency in English
Experience with international / remote / cross-timezone collaboration

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $140k - $175k annually. Compensation will vary based on geographic location (with bottom of our range representing the lowest cost of living tier in the US and the top of the range represents highest cost of living tier in the US) and a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance.
