Data Scientist II - Underwriting

The Data Science team at Dave transforms vast datasets into actionable insights, driving data-driven solutions that power new products and enhance the user experience. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and other cross-functional partners to bring innovative solutions to life. What You’ll Do

• Explore and analyze large datasets to uncover insights and drive data-driven decision-making.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define business problems, design ML solutions, and effectively communicate findings.
• Research, develop, and implement ML/AI models for prediction, optimization, and classification.
• Optimize and fine-tune ML/AI models for performance across GPU, network, and compute architectures.
• Work with Engineering and Product teams to integrate and deploy ML/AI solutions into product features.
• Monitor, analyze, and refine model performance while providing insights to stakeholders.

What You’ll Need

• BS/MS/PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or other STEM fields.
• 3+ years of experience in machine learning, deep learning, or reinforcement learning to develop AI-driven solutions that solve real-world business problems and drive key metrics.
• 3+ years of experience as a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer, proficient in programming languages such as Python, Scala, R, or Julia.
• Strong expertise in ML/DL algorithms and frameworks, including Scikit-Learn, XGBoost, LightGBM, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Product, Legal, and Compliance.
• Ability to conduct end-to-end research, implement changes, design, and manage experiments.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present research, development proposals, and experiment results clearly to engineers and business stakeholders.
• Strong business acumen and motivation to develop a deep understanding of Dave’s products, users, and business model.

Bonus If You Have

• Experience in LLM / GenAI research and application
• Experience in quantitative analysis (finance)
• Experience in credit risk and underwriting domains
