We are looking for a product designer to join our team at 60-70% for an initial duration of 6 months, with the possibility of extension afterward.

About Datastory: At Datastory, we are passionate about data visualization, data journalism and how to portray important global development questions. In order to enable anyone to tell compelling stories with data, we’re developing the Datastory platform. The product is optimized for Visualizations and Webpage types that are common in the fields of communicating with data. To enable quick data storytelling, Datastory has a unique approach to data management. It uses a “knowledge graph” based on Linked data and also provides a large set of curated Open data.

Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Product Designer to join our Datastory team. The ideal candidate will have experience with SaaS platforms, a passion for user-centered design, and the ability to drive the user experience strategy from conception to implementation. This role is critical in ensuring our platform meets and exceeds user expectations by creating seamless and engaging user experiences.

Key Responsibilities

User Testing and Research:

  • Source and recruit users for continuous user testing to ensure diverse and representative feedback.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive user testing strategies to gather qualitative and quantitative insights.
  • Conduct user interviews, usability tests, and surveys to inform design decisions.
  • Analyze user feedback and behavioral data to identify pain points, needs, and opportunities.

UX Strategy and Roadmap:

  • Define and drive the UX vision and strategy aligned with the overall product roadmap.
  • Translate user research findings into actionable insights and prioritize them within the product development cycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product managers, developers, data scientists) to integrate UX findings into the product roadmap.
  • Advocate for user-centered design principles and best practices across the organization.

Design and Implementation:

  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Ensure all design deliverables meet the highest standards of usability, accessibility, and visual appeal.
  • Collaborate closely with development teams to ensure design feasibility and accurate implementation.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest UX trends, tools, and technologies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by regularly seeking and incorporating feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Product Designer, preferably in SaaS or data-related products.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of user-centered design projects and methodologies.
  • Experience with user research techniques, including interviews, usability testing and A/B testing.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret user data and translate it into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and advocate for the user perspective.
  • Comfortable wearing many hats: as the only full-time platform designer, you need to be able to work on a wide spectrum of things from strategy to research to implementation-ready designs.

Why Join Us:

  • Be part of an innovative team dedicated to transforming data storytelling.
  • Work in a dynamic and collaborative environment with opportunities for professional growth.
  • Contribute to a product that has a meaningful impact on how data is communicated and understood.

If you are passionate about creating exceptional user experiences and have a knack for translating user needs into compelling designs, we would love to hear from you. Apply now to join our Datastory team and help shape the future of data storytelling.

How to Apply: Please submit your resume, portfolio, and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience, why you are excited about this role and your ideal start date to Katie at katie@datastory.org.
