We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced UI/UX Designer to join a NATO digital transformation engagement, contributing to the design and delivery of intuitive, user-centered interfaces for mission-critical web and mobile applications.

The selected professional will play a key role in shaping the user experience across complex, data-driven environments, ensuring usability, accessibility, and design consistency throughout the product lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with product managers, developers, and end users in an Agile/DevSecOps setting to create effective, user-focused solutions that align with NATOs operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply User-Centered Design (UCD) principles throughout the software lifecycle to create accessible, intuitive, and high-impact user experiences.
  • Conduct user research, interviews, surveys, and usability testing to validate design decisions and gather actionable feedback.
  • Produce design artifacts including sketches, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to accessibility standards (WCAG, Section 508) and follow best practices for inclusive design.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers on backlog refinement, prioritization, and iterative feedback cycles.
  • Engage with end users during the Agile product development process to ensure solutions meet real-world operational needs.
  • Establish and manage feedback loops using the BuildMeasureLearn approach to guide continuous product improvement.
  • Support developers during implementation to maintain design fidelity and meet user expectations.
  • Work collaboratively in cross-functional Agile/DevSecOps teams, actively contributing to standups, sprint demos, and retrospectives.
  • Present and communicate design concepts, rationale, and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven professional experience as a UI/UX Designer on complex web and/or mobile applications.
  • Strong foundation in user research, usability testing, and user-centered design methodologies.
  • Proficiency in modern design and prototyping tools, such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Axure, or InVision.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver detailed wireframes, user flows, and interactive prototypes.
  • Familiarity with Agile/DevSecOps environments and collaboration with multidisciplinary product teams.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to design documentation.
  • Language Requirement: High proficiency in English (C1 or higher) both written and spoken.
  • Portfolio demonstrating design methodology, process, and impact on real-world projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in UI/UX Design, Human-Centered Design, or a related field.
  • Degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Factors, or Design/Engineering disciplines.
  • Experience working in NATO, defense, or public-sector digital environments.
  • Familiarity with user experience measurement, service design, or design systems management.

Contract Type

  • Engagement Model: B2B / Freelancer
  • Engagement Context: NATO project under Agile/DevSecOps delivery standards.
  • Language Requirement: English fluency at C1 level or higher is mandatory.
