Lead Edge AI Software Engineer role building infrastructure and developer tooling for edge AI deployment. $200k-$300k + equity, fully remote or hybrid. You'll architect the systems that make edge AI as simple as cloud deployment.

My client is a VC backed startup who builds edge-native data infrastructure that lets AI run where data gets created — on devices, satellites, and IoT hardware instead of distant clouds. They've raised $15M and are in Series A conversations while prioritizing revenue and real customer partnerships over fundraising.

You'll join a 30-person engineering team where only one person has ever left. Work with a founder who's built multiple startups and believes in autonomous team structures where you own your roadmap instead of getting micromanaged.

We are looking for a Lead Edge AI Engineer with at least 3-5 years of experience to join our team. We are seeking an autonomous, product-minded leader who is passionate about building the foundational infrastructure for edge-native AI. This is a critical hire to build out the AI layer on top of our data management stack, enabling developers to easily deploy AI across edge devices. You will own the edge-AI engineering roadmap and define the standards for how AI operates in decentralized, privacy-preserving networks.

Requirements

• Proficient in Go, Rust and Python
• 2 - 3 years of experience in Managing autonomous/startup style engineering teams
• Familiarity with edge environments (not cloud- only): IoT devices, local environments, or hardware- level software
• Polyglot ability: Comfortable learning and working with multiple languages based on problem requirements
• Experience building and scaling teams of at least 10 engineers
• Product- minded: Can prioritize features based on stakeholder conversations, not just execute assigned tasks
• Curiosity for verifiable computing, zero- trust architectures, and data- centric AI design
• Leadership style: Must be comfortable with team autonomy, treating team like a startup, not expecting to be told what to do
• North America location strongly preferred (Toronto or California ideal)

What will you be doing?

• Architect and prototype edge-AI pipelines, enabling local training, inference, and cross-device collaboration.
• Build developer-friendly APIs, SDKs, and tooling to make our tech stack work for edge AI applications.
• Scale and lead a high-performing, autonomous team of up to 8 engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and innovation.
• Collaborate with partners and customers in industries like oil & gas and satellite communications to understand their needs and shape the product roadmap.
• Integrate edge-first data flows with privacy-preserving and verifiable computation frameworks, including ZK-proofs.
