CSS is seeking an Associate Director, Communications & Digital Marketing to lead the organization’s communications, content, marketing, website, and brand efforts. This is a strategic but highly hands-on individual contributor role for someone who can set direction, build structure, and personally execute at a high level.
This person will own content end-to-end across the organization and be responsible for shaping how CSS communicates its mission, impact, expertise, and value to key audiences. They will lead communications strategy and execution, oversee social media, own the visual and verbal brand, manage the website, drive digital marketing, support donor and volunteer engagement, and bring a strong execution mindset across campaigns, content, creative, and reporting.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer, sharp storyteller, organized operator, and hands-on marketer who is equally comfortable developing messaging strategy, drafting content, overseeing creative output, capturing content in the field, collaborating with external partners, running campaigns, and analyzing performance.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommunications & Content
- Own CSS’s communications and content strategy across external channels and key organizational initiatives.
- Write, edit, and manage a wide range of content including emails, newsletters, website copy, social media content, presentations, talking points, campaign materials, donor-facing materials, volunteer communications, and other organizational communications.
- Develop clear, compelling, and consistent messaging that reflects CSS’s mission, credibility, and impact.
- Translate complex, operational, or sensitive subject matter into accessible, audience-appropriate content.
- Build and manage a content calendar to support organizational priorities and ensure consistent execution.
- Collaborate closely with CSS’s PR firm to support media strategy, messaging alignment, press opportunities, and external visibility efforts.
Social Media
- Own CSS’s social media presence across platforms.
- Develop social media strategy, content planning, posting cadence, and day-to-day execution.
- Create and manage content that supports awareness, engagement, credibility, donor engagement, and volunteer engagement.
- Track performance and continuously refine social content based on results and organizational priorities.
Brand & Creative Ownership
- Own both the visual brand and verbal brand, ensuring consistency in messaging, tone, design, and overall look and feel.
- Oversee branding, visual consistency, and creative direction across communications, campaigns, digital assets, presentations, collateral, and the website.
- Help evolve CSS’s brand identity in a way that is modern, professional, mission-aligned, and scalable.
- Capture and develop content that brings CSS’s work to life across channels.
- Experience taking photos and videos is a strong plus.
- Support or execute light creative production needs, including content editing and asset development for digital channels, campaigns, and social media.
- Video editing and experience with photo editing tools are strong pluses.
Website
- Own the CSS website as a core communications and marketing platform.
- Manage website content, messaging, updates, user experience, and conversion paths.
- Partner with internal and external resources to improve site structure, performance, SEO, and content effectiveness.
- Ensure the website supports organizational goals across awareness, fundraising, donor engagement, volunteer engagement, and marketing performance.
Marketing & Campaign Execution
- Execute marketing initiatives that support awareness, fundraising, donor engagement, volunteer engagement, and organizational growth.
- Lead and manage digital marketing efforts including PPC, SEO, online video advertising, display advertising, and related campaign activity.
- Build structured campaign planning, channel strategy, and marketing execution across the organization.
- Help translate strategic priorities into effective campaigns and measurable outcomes.
- Develop and support database marketing, audience targeting, and segmentation strategies to enable more relevant and effective lifecycle outreach.
- Help establish stronger lifecycle marketing and data-driven outreach practices over time.
Analytics, Reporting & Optimization
- Track, analyze, and report on KPIs across communications and marketing efforts.
- Build reporting discipline and create visibility into performance across channels, campaigns, content, website activity, and audience engagement.
- Use data and insights to improve decision-making, refine strategy, and strengthen execution.
Qualifications
- Deep commitment to the CSS mission: a genuine passion for protecting Jewish life and a belief that communal security starts with the community taking ownership of its own security.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, content, marketing, or related roles.
- Hands-on experience executing digital marketing initiatives, including PPC and SEO.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Strong experience owning content and communications end-to-end.
- Strong experience leveraging AI tools.
- Experience managing or owning social media strategy and execution.
- Experience owning or guiding both brand strategy and visual brand execution, including design standards and overall creative consistency.
- Experience with database/lifecycle marketing, segmentation, and audience targeting.
- Strong analytical mindset with experience tracking performance and reporting on KPIs.
- Experience using Google Analytics.
- Experience with HubSpot or similar CRM and marketing automation tools.
- Experience working with WordPress.
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Comfortable operating as a high-output individual contributor in a lean organization.
- Video editing is a major plus.

Other considerations
Must be eligible to work in the US. Should be available for evenings and weekends at times.
This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range between $90,000 to $120,000 commensurate with experience and based on location; benefits are competitive. CSS offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance, vacation time, and professional development opportunities
