Our Design System is central to creating a cohesive, efficient, and scalable design language across all Compass products. Design Systems Designers lead our design system's creation, maintenance, and evolution, collaborate with product teams on implementation, and consult with engineering to bring the system to life across all platforms (Web, iOS, and Android).

You have extensive knowledge of best-in-class design system patterns across web and native mobile platforms and an understanding of how to create scalable, flexible components. You also have a strong knowledge of platform affordances and how to use their constraints to enhance design features within the system.

You have pixel-perfect standards with exceptional interaction design skills and an eye for accessibility and usability. You collaborate seamlessly with engineers to ensure well-executed, high-quality implementation of the design system on all platforms.

As a Senior Design Systems Designer, you will work closely with a cross-functional team of product designers, developers, and product managers to create, maintain, and evolve our design system. You will be responsible for crafting scalable solutions that ensure consistency and efficiency across all Compass products. This is a full-time position reporting to the Sr. Director of Design.

Responsibility

• Active ownership of the Compass DS, including support for revamping existing patterns + components and expanding the system to cover gaps
• Deliver scalable, reusable patterns + components that support complex workflow experiences while maintaining simplicity and intuitiveness
• Rapidly prototype and validate your design solutions
• Own the governance and documentation of the Compass DS, including usage guidelines and best practices
• Ability to leverage data insights to improve the value and performance of our products (including optimization for SEO and accessibility)
• Conduct regular audits of existing products to identify inconsistencies and opportunities for system improvements
• Evangelize the design system across the organization and provide guidance to product teams on its use
• Collaborate with cross-functional peers and stakeholders to define an approach, articulate decisions, and build alignment
• Work in close partnership with program managers to build a cross-team and cross-discipline program to drive outcomes and ensure consistency, accessibility and quality across various projects
• Work closely with our engineering teams to understand technical feasibility, provide guidance, and ensure quality implementation across platforms (web and native)

What you bring

• BA/BS in HCI, Interaction Design, or equivalent work experience
• 6-8+ years of user experience (UX) design work
• Proven success in creating and maintaining large-scale Design Systems
• Expert knowledge of DS best practices, including component architecture and token-based design
• Strong understanding of accessibility standards and how to implement them in a DS
• Production quality, specialist knowledge of Figma suite
• Expert ability to execute design standards across responsive web and native apps
• Clean design aesthetic with a strong eye for layout, color, and typography
• Strong copywriting skills
• Ability to communicate ideas persuasively and concisely
• Ability to work with autonomy and flexibility in a remote work environment
• A strong portfolio demonstrating experience with design systems, component libraries, and systems thinking
