OUR WORK MODEL

Hybrid or Remote: If you're based within a reasonable commuting distance of our office, we expect you to work from the office 2–3 days per week, with flexibility to work remotely on other days. If you're located outside of commuting distance, this role can be performed remotely.

YOUR ROLE

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design and build scalable, secure backend services that power our high-growth platform. You’ll work cross-functionally with Product Managers, Designers, and fellow Engineers to translate product requirements into robust backend solutions. Your technical leadership will shape the architecture, improve code quality, and drive performance, resilience, and maintainability across our systems.

YOUR CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIES

Build Scalable Applications – Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of secure and scalable backend services and APIs that support high-growth use cases.
Mentor & Elevate the Team – Provide hands-on technical mentorship to engineers, fostering a culture of engineering excellence and continuous learning.
Reduce Technical Debt – Proactively identify and address technical debt to improve long-term maintainability and system performance.
Own Testing Strategy – Develop and advocate for comprehensive automated testing practices (unit, integration, end-to-end) to ensure platform stability.
Drive Engineering Excellence – Uphold and continuously raise coding and testing standards to deliver high-quality, reliable software.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally – Partner with Product, Design, and DevOps teams to deliver impactful, customer-facing features.
Promote Continuous Improvement – Champion best practices in our development lifecycle, infrastructure, and team workflows.

OUR EXPECTATIONS

Experience – 6+ years of backend development experience, with a strong track record of delivering scalable products in high-growth production environments.
Languages – Proficiency in Scala or a comparable strongly typed, object-oriented or functional programming language.
Architecture & Scaling – Experience building distributed, high-availability systems at scale. Familiarity with SaaS architecture and business models is a plus.
Cloud-Native Mindset – Hands-on experience with AWS services including Lambda, S3, API Gateway, ECS, and EC2.
Software Engineering Craftsmanship – Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, clean code principles, and service design best practices.
Technical Leadership – Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and guiding architectural decisions in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
