Senior Software Engineer (COBOL)

Summary:

Cloud7Works is seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer (COBOL) to join our growing team of IT professionals. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in supporting and enhancing critical financial and reporting systems. You will contribute to maintaining and modernizing mainframe-based legacy systems that support enterprise operations and essential business functions.

This is a 100% remote position with long-term federal contract stability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance mainframe-based software systems using COBOL.
• Analyze technical and business requirements to design efficient and scalable software solutions.
• Work collaboratively in an Agile development environment to deliver high-quality software within established timelines.
• Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, design specifications, and project briefings.
• Ensure software solutions comply with organizational quality standards and security requirements.
• Provide production support, system integration assistance, and knowledge transfer to ensure operational excellence.

Required Qualifications:

• This position requires the ability to obtain Security Clearance for which US Citizenship is required.
• Must be eligible for a Tier 3 (Noncritical-Sensitive) background investigation, granting National Security eligibility.
• Minimum of 6 years of demonstrated experience in software development with expertise in COBOL within a mainframe environment.
• Proficient in UNISYS Mainframe ECL and QLP.
• Hands-on experience working in an Agile development environment.
• Familiarity with CMMI-based development practices.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting large-scale financial or enterprise reporting systems.
• Exposure to system integration, production support, and knowledge transfer activities.
• Relevant certifications and/or academic qualifications are preferred but not mandatory.
