Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering and Design Program Manager with a strong background in the solar industry to lead our engineering and design team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in drafting and reviewing solar installation plans, working collaboratively with third-party groups (such as structural and electrical engineers), and using tools like Aurora Solar for accurate system modeling and design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the engineering and design function in the development of high-quality PV system plans for residential and/or commercial projects.
- Collaborate with third-party structural and electrical engineering firms to ensure timely and code-compliant plan sets.
- Oversee the use of Aurora Solar for system modeling, shade analysis, energy production estimates, and layout design.
- Review and approve CAD drawings and design packages prior to AHJ and utility submissions.
- Work closely with project managers, sales teams, and permitting coordinators to streamline the design-to-installation process.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of national and local code requirements (NEC, IFC, IRC, etc.) as they relate to solar PV design.
- Develop and maintain internal design standards and documentation to ensure consistency and efficiency across all projects.
- Provide technical support and training to internal teams as needed.
- Monitor key performance metrics related to design accuracy, plan set turnaround times, and third-party coordination.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical field preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in solar PV system design and engineering.
- Demonstrated experience working with third-party engineering groups (structural/electrical).
- Proficiency with Aurora Solar is required.
- Strong understanding of electrical and structural design principles for PV systems.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, or other relevant design/drafting tools.
- Excellent project management and team leadership skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- NABCEP certification (preferred but not required).
