Director of Marketing Ops

Position Overview
Primitive is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Marketing Ops to build and lead their marketing operations function. This role is instrumental in ensuring client marketing efforts are measurable, connected, and performing. You will operate at both a strategic level, partnering with Client Strategy and the COO to build agency-wide frameworks and processes, and at an execution level, owning client workstreams and Martech stacks.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement marketing operations strategies for clients.
- Build and manage agency-wide marketing operations frameworks, standards, and team structures.
- Own client workstreams, including Martech stack configuration, automation, and workflow building (HubSpot, Klaviyo, Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, etc.).
- Ensure paid media campaigns are measurable and own conversion tracking and attribution infrastructure.
- Drive performance reporting and analysis for clients.
- Lead SEO and AEO strategy and implementation, including technical SEO and content alignment.
- Research, evaluate, and implement AI-powered tools and workflows for SEO, AEO, and overall operations.
- Manage Google Business Profile setup, performance, and reputation management.
- Lead the build-out of Primitive's AI Optimization offering.
- Own GA4, Google Tag Manager, and tracking setup with coordination from development teams.
- Lead and mentor Marketing Ops Specialists, manage team workload, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Stay current on digital marketing trends, Martech, SEO, and AI tooling.
Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years in digital marketing, marketing operations, and marketing technology.
- Experience leading a team and managing multiple client accounts.
- Fluency in HubSpot and broader Martech stack (Klaviyo, MailChimp, Shopify).
- Strong working knowledge of GA4, Google Tag Manager, and attribution.
- Hands-on experience building automations and workflows in Claude (primary AI platform).
- Proven experience in email and SMS marketing strategy.
- Strong understanding of paid media strategy (measurability).
- Solid grasp of SEO, AEO, technical SEO, and emerging AI optimization.
- Excellent communication and systems thinking skills.
