HEAD of ENGINEERING

We are at an exciting stage of growth and are looking for a strategic Head of Engineering to lead and scale our product development efforts.
Role Overview:
We are looking for an engineering leader with start-up experience, who resides in the Greater Nashville area or Atlanta.
As the Head of Engineering, reporting to the Chief Transformation Officer, you will play a key leadership role in shaping the future of our product and technology strategy. You will be responsible for building and scaling the geographically dispersed engineering team, overseeing the architecture, design, and development of our platform, and ensuring that our technology infrastructure meets the highest standards of reliability, security, compliance, and scalability. Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
- Drive hiring efforts to scale the team as the company grows, ensuring a strong pipeline of engineering talent.
- Provide technical guidance and career development opportunities for engineers.
- Product Development & Delivery:
- Collaborate closely with the product, design, and data science teams to define product roadmaps and technical requirements.
- Oversee the end-to-end development process, from architecture and design to implementation and release, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality features and products.
- Implement and manage agile methodologies to ensure efficient and iterative product development cycles.
- Technology Strategy & Architecture:
- Own the technical vision and architecture of the platform, ensuring it is scalable, secure, and optimized for performance.
- Ensure seamless integration with Microsoft Azure, leveraging Azure's tools and services for data storage, processing, and analytics.
- Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and trends, ensuring the platform remains innovative and competitive.
- Operational Excellence & Infrastructure:
- Ensure the engineering team's adherence to best practices in software development, including code quality, testing, continuous integration, and deployment.
- Oversee DevOps processes, cloud infrastructure management, and security practices to ensure uptime, performance, and data integrity.
- Monitor and optimize system performance, availability, and cost-efficiency on Azure.
- Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with the CPO and other key stakeholders to align technical priorities with business objectives.
- Communicate technical challenges and progress effectively across the company, translating complex technical concepts into business impacts.
- Act as a key contributor to strategic discussions regarding company growth, product development, and market positioning.
Requirements:
- Proven experience (7+ years) in engineering leadership roles, preferably with SaaS or data products in the healthcare industry (with a payor/health plan or provider group)
- Strong background in cloud architecture, particularly with Microsoft Azure, and experience building data platforms or large-scale data processing systems.
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling engineering teams in fast-paced startup environments.
- Experience with cybersecurity and data privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with modern software development practices, including agile methodologies, continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD), and microservices architecture.
- Solid understanding of data engineering, machine learning pipelines, and analytics, as well as web applications and native mobile apps.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset and ability to drive both high-level initiatives and hands-on execution.
- Exceptional communication and leadership abilities, with a track record of cross-functional collaboration.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience working with AI/ML technologies and big data ecosystems (e.g., Apache Spark, Databricks), as well as ETL experience.
- Familiarity with FHIR or other healthcare data standards/models
- Prior experience with B2B SaaS platforms in the data/analytics space.
- Our platform is built using leading-edge technologies, such as Airbyte, Airflow, Delta Lake, dbt, Databricks, Kuberenets, and SuperSet. Previous experience with these technologies is preferred.
