Role Purpose

Candescent is seeking a Designer to join the Forge Design System (FDS) team to build, govern, evolve and maintain the shared UI components, interaction patterns, and design tokens that power our financial institution clients.

In this role, you will not design individual user-facing features. Instead, you will treat our design system as a living product — one that requires as much creation as stewardship. You'll originate net-new components and patterns (tables, tabs, forms, carousel, and others as system coverage grows) with [Jack] as reviewer on system-critical decisions, while equally ensuring what's already shipped stays consistent, accessible, and faithful to spec as the system scales: auditing built components against Figma, triaging federated contributions, and holding the line on quality as adoption grows.

Key Responsibilities

Component Design & Figma Library Management

• Design, document, and maintain Figma component libraries (25+ components in beta, 16 core components published)
• Ensure Figma component properties align 1:1 with code component APIs (React Native)
• Own design of net-new components and interaction patterns (e.g. tables, tabs, forms, carousel) from concept through Figma spec, in partnership with [Jack] as reviewer on system-critical decisions
• Define and document pattern usage guidance — when to use what (cards vs. list items, tabs vs. segmented control, dense admin layouts vs. consumer layouts) — as a first-class deliverable, not incidental documentation

Token Architecture

• Support our three brand presets (Poise, Prestige, Pulse) and future theme extensibility
• Manage design tokens (color, typography, spacing, radius, shadows) via Figma variables, ensuring naming consistency across design and code

Cross-Platform Design

• Validate component behavior across breakpoints and device contexts
• Design components for a mobile-first React Native / Uniwind stack that render identically on iOS, Android, and Web from a single codebase
• Account for platform-specific interaction patterns while maintaining system consistency

Theme Editor UI

• Contribute to the design of the visual theme editor that enables FI admins to customize brand themes without code

Contribution Intake & Governance

• Review and triage design contributions from product teams via the federated contribution model
• Conduct design alignment reviews for incoming component requests and pattern proposals
• Help maintain the contribution intake process and quality bar
• Own federated contribution intake end-to-end, including async design alignment reviews with India and partner teams operating in IST

Documentation & Accessibility

• Maintain design guidance on http://design.candescent.com, including component specs, usage patterns, and foundation principles
• Coordinate with the Accessibility team to schedule and scope audits/checks for FDS components against WCAG AA 2.1 standards
• Triage accessibility feedback and route it appropriately — partnering with FDS engineers on implementation fixes, or making design changes directly when the fix is design-side
• Track remediation to closure, ensuring accessibility feedback is actually implemented, not just logged
• Partner with the Accessibility horizontal capability as needed

Design QA & Fidelity

• Audit shipped/built components against Figma specs to catch visual, spacing, and interaction drift; partner with engineering to resolve discrepancies before release.

Adoption Support

• Work with consuming teams to validate components, fill gaps, and support adoption across the product areas

Required

Qualifications & Experience

• 4–6 years of experience in UX/UI design with a strong focus on design systems or component library work
• Portfolio demonstrating systems-level thinking: component design, token architecture, pattern documentation
• Advanced Figma proficiency, including components, variants, auto-layout, variables, and Dev Mode / Code Connect
• Experience designing for cross-platform environments (iOS, Android, Web)
• Strong understanding of design tokens and how they bridge design and engineering
• Working fluency reading front-end component code (HTML, CSS/SASS, JavaScript, or React) and using Figma Dev Mode / Code Connect to independently verify design-to-code API parity with engineering

Preferred

• Experience designing within a React Native codebase specifically, or working closely with a React Native engineering team
• Familiarity with AI-assisted design or development tools (e.g. AI-assisted Figma workflows, code-generation copilots, or similar) and interest in applying them to design system workflows
• Hands-on coding experience (a plus, not required)
