Compensation: Payment per course. Negotiable rate based on SME's qualifications and industry experience
About the Role
Are you ready to take your expertise to new heights? We’re looking for passionate, knowledgeable, and experienced Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in Fashion Design and/or Marketing and Merchandising to join our growing team. This role is perfect for industry professionals who are tech-savvy, enthusiastic about education, and eager to shape the next generation of leaders in fashion.
As an SME, you’ll collaborate closely with our National Director of Academics and Instructional Designers, as well as our academic team, to develop high-quality curriculum content. Your work will inspire and engage students, leaving a lasting impact on their educational journey.
We have two contracts available for development for our Marketing and Merchandising program.
Available SME Roles by Course
1. Cultural Navigation in a Diverse Global Marketplace
- Focus Areas:
- Cultural influence on global market demand and consumer behavior
- Ethical considerations in fashion marketing and brand reputation
- Political, legal, and economic environments affecting global marketing
- Cross-cultural advertising, international pricing strategies, global negotiations
- Integrated marketing communications and global market research methods
- Ideal SME:
- An expert in international fashion marketing, global branding, or cultural strategy, with deep understanding of the ethical, political, and cultural complexities in entering foreign markets. Ideally experienced in developing marketing strategies for diverse audiences and familiar with DEI principles, global media, and sustainable branding.
2. E-Business Fundamentals with Shopify
- Focus Areas:
- E-business models: dropshipping, white/private label, digital/handmade products
- SEO, web design, copywriting, blogging, email marketing, and Google Analytics
- Full Shopify store setup, configuration, and optimization
- Ideal SME:
- A Shopify expert or e-commerce entrepreneur with experience in launching and managing online stores, as well as proficiency in digital marketing, SEO, data analysis, and online branding, with a fashion focus.
3. Fashion Event Management and Promotion
- Focus Areas:
- Fashion event planning, budgeting, and logistics
- Backstage production, runway choreography, and talent acquisition
- Fashion PR, sponsorship, digital promotion, and post-event analysis
- Ideal SME:
- A fashion show producer, PR manager, or event planner with hands-on experience managing fashion events, creating promotional strategies, and coordinating teams, budgets, and media engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the National Academic Director and Instructional Designers
- Develop original curriculum materials including:
- Weekly lectures, learning outcomes, and activities
- Assignments and assessments with marking rubrics
- Course outlines and session-by-session breakdowns
- Real-world case studies, examples, and tools aligned to industry standards
Required Qualifications
- A credential in a relevant field from a recognized university or college.
- 5+ years of industry experience, relevant teaching experience at the post-secondary level, or a combination of both.
- Experience in curriculum development is an asset.
- Experience creating and running a successful Shopify account is an asset.
Skills and Abilities
- Deep industry knowledge in your area(s) of expertise, with a commitment to continuous professional growth.
- Interest in innovative, multi-modal educational approaches is an asset.
- Advanced English written communication skills and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain a professional demeanor.
Proficiency
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word and PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with fashion-related software and industry practices.
- Experience with layout and presentations (Canva, InDesign, etc.)
- Adaptable to new technologies and a driver of technological innovation.
