Job Overview:
Bystanders No More (BNM) is seeking a skilled Website Developer/Web Designer (volunteer) to enhance and maintain our website, a vital platform for engaging bystanders in support of universal human rights for Palestinians. Since our launch in May 2024, the site has undergone significant upgrades, and we aim to continuously improve its functionality, aesthetics, and accessibility.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Design & Development: Maintain and optimize website’s and landing page’s design, layout, and functionality, ensuring a seamless user experience.
- Content Updates: Collaborate with the Website Team to implement and organize content updates while maintaining visual consistency.
- Technical Improvements: Enhance site performance, responsiveness, and accessibility, adhering to best practices in UX/UI design.
- Collaboration: Work with the SEO specialist and other teams to align the website with BNM’s broader communications strategy.
- Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot technical issues and implement innovative solutions to improve site engagement.
Required & Preferred Experience:
Essential:
- Alignment with BNM’s mission (engaging bystanders) and approach (emphasizing “calling in”).
- 5+ years of web development/design experience
- WordPress proficiency
- Strong skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design principles.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively in a remote team.
- Commitment of 2-3 hours per week for about 3-4 months.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with PHP, SEO optimization, and accessibility standards (WCAG).
- Experience in graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Figma), preference but no must.
- Background in human rights/social justice initiatives (especially Palestinian solidarity).
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset.
