We are seeking a talented and versatile Web Designer & Developer to create a professional, accessible, and user-friendly website from the ground up. The site will serve as a trusted resource for Disabled Veterans, providing news updates, educational resources, and legal consultation information. This is a contract role with a project duration of approximately 3 months.
Job Highlights
Hourly Rate: The equivalent of $7.21 USD per hour in the applicant’s local currency
Project role - 20 hours/week, flexible schedule
Work Arrangement: Work from home
Contract: Independent Contractor
Side Note: Since this is a permanent work-from-home position and the arrangement is that of an “Independent Contractor,” the selected candidates must have their own computer and internet connection. They will handle their own benefits and taxes. The professional fees are on hourly rates and the rate depends on your performance in the application process.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and launch a fully functional website tailored to the needs of Disabled Veterans.
- Develop a clean, intuitive layout that prioritizes accessibility, easy navigation, and responsive design.
- Create a professional and welcoming aesthetic that balances both news/media elements and legal consultation services.
- Integrate features such as:
- News/blog section with regular update capability.
- Contact forms and consultation request options.
- Secure document upload functionality (if required).
- Accessibility compliance (ADA/WCAG standards).
- Optimize website for SEO and fast load speeds.
- Ensure mobile-friendly performance across all devices and browsers.
- Set up CMS (e.g., WordPress or another suitable platform) for easy content updates post-launch.
- Provide basic training/documentation for ongoing maintenance and updates.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as both Web Designer and Web Developer with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks or CMS platforms (WordPress preferred).
- Experience with UX/UI design principles and tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, Canva, or Photoshop).
- Strong understanding of website accessibility standards (ADA/WCAG).
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and site performance optimization.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and responsiveness to project feedback.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience creating websites for nonprofits, veterans, or legal services.
- Familiarity with security best practices for websites handling sensitive information.
- Knowledge of integrating scheduling or consultation booking tools.
