About the Role:

Build the world's most efficient data engine, using petabytes to deliver real-time SEO/AI insights. Design ClickHouse (real-time/high-concurrency) + BigQuery (batch/ad-hoc) hybrid architecture as performance gatekeeper. No ETL/pipelines, pure query/UI optimization for dashboards.

What You'll Do?

Hybrid Architecture:

Route workloads: ClickHouse for sub-second UI queries vs Data warehouse for petabyte scans.
ClickHouse schemas: MergeTree engines, primary/skipping indexes, materialized views/PREWHERE for GROUP BY dashboards.
Data warehouse: Partitioning/clustering/nested fields maximizing slot efficiency

Extreme Optimization:

Profile complex SQL → sub-second responses on trillion-row datasets.
Materialized views/projections pre-calculating heavy aggregations.
Compression (DoubleDelta/Gorilla/ZSTD) + cold storage (S3 Disk engine)

Cost Engineering:

Migrate high-frequency queries from BigQuery pay-per-scan → ClickHouse persistent compute.
Infinite retention via storage tiering without infinite costs.

What You Bring:

Expert ClickHouse: Production query/UI optimization w/ metrics.
BigQuery Advanced: Partitioning/clustering/cost optimization at the petabyte scale.
5+ YOE; owns dashboard queries (PM/UX-facing), zero ETL/Kafka/CDC.
Stack: SQL/Python/Go, dbt, K8s, Iceberg/Delta Lake, Trino/Doris.
