As a UX Designer with Principal Financial Group, you'll engage in design thinking exercises and immerse yourself in all aspects of UX, while partnering with our CX, technology and business teams. This individual will have the opportunity to design attractive, intuitive sites and apps that are used by thousands of our product customers. This is an opportunity to not only design but engage and deliver on user experience initiatives for strategic products and services.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct user research through interviews, surveys, usability testing (moderated/unmoderated), and behavioral analysis. Translate insights into actionable design decisions to create intuitive, accessible, and engaging user experiences.
- Design wireframes and high-fidelity interactive prototypes using tools like Figma or Adobe XD. Craft thoughtful interactions with a focus on usability, accessibility (WCAG standards), and system feedback, while simplifying for learnability using best practices like chunking and pattern recognition.
- Engage with customers, business partners, and leadership to gather feedback, align on priorities, and communicate design vision and strategy. Use prototypes and research insights to build shared understanding across cross-functional teams.
- Design experiences that align with the Principal brand, incorporating color, typography, layout, and illustration to elevate the overall visual appeal and clarity of interfaces.
- Identify design gaps and opportunities, lead efforts for improvement, and provide mentorship through design feedback and knowledge sharing. Promote UX maturity by facilitating discussions that build trust and common goals.
- Develop UX/UI project plans and provide clear, persuasive updates and presentations to various audiences, ensuring alignment on research findings, design concepts, and testing outcomes.

Who You Are
- Financial services / Insurance / Wealth Management / Fintech B2C experience preferred, as demonstrated by portfolio showcasing end to end case studies; experience building digital products from 0 to 1 a big plus
- Excellent native mobile app design experience
- 5+ years of professional full stack digital product design experience, with proficiency in web and mobile prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, InVision, or Axure.
- Experience with user research and testing tools (e.g., Maze, UserZoom, UserTesting.com), as well as web analytics (Google Analytics 4, Adobe Analytics), and behavioral analytics tools (e.g., HotJar, Contentsquare, MouseFlow).
- Experience using generative AI tools to enhance your UX practice through rapid ideation and content generation.
- Excellent planning, problem-solving, analytical, communication, and decision-making skills. High attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate on cross-functional teams and ensure brand consistency across departments.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in graphic design, human-computer interaction, management information systems, or a related field—or equivalent experience.
- Ability to obtain relevant certifications (e.g., CUA or HCI) is a plus. Some travel, including overnight stays, may be required.
