This role is for an individual contributor mobile product designer focused on in-store experiences within the PayPal Checkout team. The designer will lead the end-to-end visual and interaction design of features, from early concept exploration to finely polished, production-ready solutions. The work includes creating high-fidelity mobile UI, shaping thoughtful workflows and interactions, and building interactive prototypes that communicate intent and behavior with clarity. A strong emphasis is placed on visual craft, including attention to typography, layout, spacing, motion, iconography, and illustration, to deliver intuitive and beautifully executed experiences at scale. Experience designing and prototyping with AI-powered tools or workflows is a strong bonus.

Key activities:
- Act as a hands-on individual contributor Product Designer with a strong focus on consumer mobile design (iOS and Android)
- Lead end-to-end design for in-store mobile experiences, spanning small iterations to large, complex features
- Design and deliver high-fidelity, production-ready UI with a high bar for visual craft and polish
- Create interactive prototypes (not just static screens) to communicate workflows, motion, and behavior
- Drive design for key in-store payment experiences, including QR code payments and NFC tap-to-pay
- Explore and design new technologies across checkout, rewards, and loyalty experiences
- Work independently while collaborating closely with product, engineering, content, and research partners
- Partner directly with stakeholders, articulating design decisions and incorporating feedback
- Prepare assets and prototypes for user research and usability testing
- Contribute to motion, animation, and interaction details to deliver delightful, intuitive consumer-facing experiences
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience as a Product Designer with deep expertise in visual design, UI craft, and mobile product experiences
- A portfolio that clearly demonstrates exceptional visual quality, refined interaction design, and strong taste across iOS and Android
- Mastery of core visual design fundamentals: typography, layout, spacing, color, iconography, and motion, with obsessive attention to detail
- Proven experience designing consumer-grade mobile products at scale, balancing consistency, usability, and brand expression
- Strong fluency in design systems, including contributing to, extending, and upholding a high craft bar across complex ecosystems
- Ability to rapidly explore, iterate, and refine designs while maintaining a consistently high level of polish
- Experience working in large, fast-moving technology organizations, shipping at scale and navigating ambiguity
- Trusted partner to product and engineering leaders, with a track record of direct stakeholder engagement and design influence
- Ability to articulate and defend design decisions through clear visual, verbal and written rationale, taste, and user-centered thinking
- Comfortable operating end-to-end — from concept exploration to final production-ready designs
- Deep familiarity with modern design tools and workflows (e.g., Figma), including collaboration, prototyping, and developer handoff
- High standards for quality, accessibility, and performance, with a strong point of view on what “great” looks like
