About The Team

Seller, Payments and Finance Analytics (SPF) is an analytics team committed to applying the techniques of data science and analytics to drive significant insights, including:

• Understanding the nuances of seller and buyer behavior on Etsy, with a focus on the myriad interactions with financial systems, payments, and marketplace services
• Building rich data sources of truth that interweave complex payments & finance data with other foundational user data from across the Etsy ecosystem
• Finding and advocating for outstanding opportunities for Etsy’s growth that move critical metrics

About The Role

Join us at Etsy as a Senior Data Scientist to play an essential role on our Money Movement team. The Money Movement team is responsible for the flow of funds between buyers, sellers, and Etsy. You'll lead analysis & insights to improve payments routing performance, drive experimentation with payment methods, help build essential data products, and guide the development of intelligent routing systems.

As a squad lead, you’ll work closely with product, engineering, and operations to unlock opportunities across the payments ecosystem. We’re looking for experienced analysts & data scientists who can deep-dive data to solve complex problems, have a passion for democratizing insights, and can provide thought leadership to a cross-functional team.

Collaborate with leaders across finance, payments, and technology to shape the future roadmap of Etsy. Requirements

Must-Haves

• Expert in SQL, with some experience in Python or R
• 4+ years experience as a product data scientist/analyst, or in a quantitative role in which you extracted meaning from sophisticated data sets in a business setting
• Experienced in root cause analysis, experimentation, dashboarding, with working knowledge of statistical analysis and database management principles
• Proven project & stakeholder management skills, from ideation to delivery
• A deep care about the quality of your data, the integrity & reproducibility of your work
• A passion for data storytelling, bringing people together, and working cross-functionally with both technical/non-technical stakeholders
• Hungry to learn new skills & areas, and can confidently thrive through ambiguity

Nice-to-Have

• Have a deep understanding of payments processing, finance, or checkout product domains; marketplace or e-commerce experience is ideal
• Experience or interest in anomaly detection, predictive analytics, causal inference
• Interest in collaborating with engineers to create data models, improve data quality, and be a data steward
