We are looking for an backend engineer to augment the backend/API engineering staff in our squad in Q3 to support the shopping experience on mobile apps for Etsy buyers.

As an API Engineer, you will be working on a cross-functional team that includes a product manager, UI designer, App engineers and other API engineers. In this role you will be contributing primarily in the backend that powers our mobile apps using technologies like PHP, MySQL, HTML/CSS and Memcache.

As a senior engineer, you’ll be expected to take product requirements and research paths towards implementation within Etsy’s codebase, clearly communicating your findings and proposed solutions. While your focus will be in the backend, familiarity with establishing API contracts with frontend (App) engineers will be required.

We work closely with a product manager, UI designer, UX researchers to build a gifting experience for Etsy mobile apps. We also collaborate with Release Engineering, Test/QA, and Analytics teams.
Our roadmap for the rest of the year includes iterations to the gifting experience.

What does the day-to-day look like?

Contribute to the backend development of Etsy app features.
Familiarizing yourself with Etsy’s custom frameworks and tech stacks.
Supplement new and existing product features with comprehensive tests, documentation and monitoring
Assist with technical discovery and communicate findings and recommendations to your team members.
Work with iOS engineers & Android engineers on other teams to improve the Etsy app.
Participate in code reviews and project planning discussions.
Troubleshoot and monitor critical systems
Collaborate closely with product managers and designers throughout the product life cycle
