LOCATION: Remote (some travel to Fort Myers and Boston)
MISSION: Assist in the development and growth of the biomechanics data analyses workflow for application in Sports Science and Analytics departments.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Boston Red Sox are seeking a motivated Biomechanical Engineer to join the Sport Science and Analytics departments. The role will primarily focus on the programming, processing and analyses of biomechanics data and its implementation into an applied baseball setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong skill set in either C-Motion’s Visual 3D software and programming or OpenSim.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop biomechanics calculations with Biomechanist and Analyst.
- Work with Analyst on developing our expanding 3D Motion Capture data analyses workflow.
- Under Analyst’s supervision, perform day to day KinaTrax 3D motion capture data processing.
- Work with Motion Capture Data, C-Motion, and Data Architects to maintain data integrity and data processing efficiency.
- Work closely with Baseball Systems team to ensure proper integration of biomechanical data across all other relevant data sources.
- Assist in development of automating reports of biomechanical data for Biomechanist, Analyst and designated staff.
- Assist in the vetting and incorporation of new technology within the biomechanics side of the Sports Science Department.
- Assist Biomechanist with implementation and development of current and new biomechanical hardware technologies.
CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters or PHD in biomechanical engineering or related field required.
- Strong mathematical/physics background
- Applied baseball biomechanics experience in a research or servicing capacity is preferred
- Previous experience with a range of sport technology and baseball specific technology is preferred
- Expertise developing biomechanical models preferable
- Experience programming in C-Motion’s Visual 3D software or OpenSim
- Experience in SQL is preferred
- Experience in expressing biomechanical data with clear visualization is preferred
- Experience with programming languages (e.g., C, Python, Matlab or R) is preferred
- Ability to communicate complex concepts effectively and clearly
- Attention to detail while also having the ability to work quickly and balance multiple priorities
- Experience in a fast paced large scale data environment is preferred
- Experience in an elite or professional sport environment preferred
