Our client builds document and matter management software for legal: corporate legal departments and law firms. Their flagship product is one of the very few SaaS products natively embedded in SharePoint, Outlook and Azure - Microsoft-deep, hard to displace. Profitable, growing ~30% on the existing product, backed by Private Equity.

WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS

Two products, two countries, one modernisation to run. The Dutch flagship needs stabilising, sharpening and a real AI story. The Danish on-prem practice management product - compliance-heavy, market-leading locally - is being rebuilt as a modular Azure SaaS, with the first international release targeted this year.

This is the first CTO-grade hire since the leadership consolidation under the new CEO. You report to him directly. He's ex-CTO himself, so you'll get an engineering-literate boss and a genuinely greenfield mandate: reshape the org, retire the legacy, own the AI strategy from day one.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

→ ~30 engineers across the Netherlands and Denmark, plus the management team

→ Stabilising and accelerating the Microsoft 365 flagship, with AI built into the product rather than bolted on

→ Architecting and shipping the Azure-based next-gen SaaS platform for the international rollout

→ Building out senior engineering capacity in NL and bringing critical knowledge in-house

→ Moving the culture from big-bang releases to weekly deploys - and instrumenting it, so engineering metrics tie to business KPIs

→ Staying hands-on as architect: system design, cloud scalability, distributed systems

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

✅ Deep hands-on .NET / Microsoft stack background (this one is non-negotiable)

✅ Proven B2B SaaS experience — product companies, not consultancy

✅ Azure and cloud leadership at architecture level

✅ Real people leadership: a team, an MT, more than a few direct reports

✅ AI-native mindset, ideally with an adoption track record (20+ engineers here already use CoPilot daily)

✅ Based in the Netherlands — minimum 2 days per week on site, more during onboarding

✅ Comfortable travelling to the Danish team monthly (3–4 days per trip)
