About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our Credit Underwriting team remotely, based out of Seattle, WA. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining sophisticated underwriting services that leverage advanced data analytics and machine learning technologies. Your work will directly impact our ability to extend credit to our sellers efficiently and securely, supporting our mission to expand access to financial products.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, product management, risk, and data science to shape the future of our lending platform. As a key technical leader, you will guide architectural decisions, promote best practices, and mentor engineering talent, ensuring the platform remains reliable, scalable, and adaptable to evolving business needs.

Qualifications

12+ years of backend engineering experience with demonstrated impact on organizational growth
Proficiency in Go, Ruby, or Kotlin, with a willingness to learn additional languages as needed
Extensive experience in architecting and scaling high-reliability financial systems
Strong understanding of fault tolerance, operational excellence, and data integrity in complex systems
Proven mentorship skills and ability to foster cross-team collaboration
Excellent technical communication skills and ability to build trust across diverse teams
Experience in decomposing complex problems into maintainable solutions
(Optional) Domain expertise in lending, credit underwriting, or consumer credit systems

Responsibilities

Solve ambiguous, high-risk challenges in underwriting systems by directly engaging in code and implementing end-to-end solutions
Define and execute the long-term technical strategy for underwriting services, contributing hands-on to critical platform capabilities
Collaborate with engineering, product, risk, and data science teams to develop innovative lending features and capabilities
Lead architectural reviews, provide design feedback, and set high standards for system reliability, maintainability, and extensibility
Mentor and develop engineering team members, fostering expertise in underwriting domain knowledge and platform development
Enhance the underwriting platform by ensuring robust APIs, comprehensive documentation, and responsive support for credit policy teams
Maintain a focus on operational excellence, fault tolerance, and data security across all systems
