Blackwall is building the next generation of AI-powered security infrastructure to protect the web from automated threats. We combine behavioural intelligence, real-time protection, and performance optimization to safeguard hosting environments and drive operational efficiency.
We’re now hiring an AI Data Scientist to join our growing team and work closely with our Head of AI. You’ll help us bring intelligence to two distinct AI initiatives:
- Embedding AI capabilities into our Web Application Firewall (WAF), and
- Powering behavioural analysis across the Blackwall server to detect and mitigate bot-driven threats.
This is a hands-on, cross-functional role for someone who thrives at the intersection of data science, software engineering, and security infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Head of AI, product, and engineering teams to define AI opportunities within security features and infrastructure components.
- Develop and deploy machine learning models (LLMs, classification models, anomaly detectors) for our WAF and behavioural analytics engine.
- Apply behavioural modeling and adversarial learning to distinguish human and bot behaviour under real-time constraints.
- Develop AI models using Python, C++, and SQL in production-grade systems.
- Design ML workflows that enhance data quality, latency and decision accuracy.
- Translate research and data into clear and actionable insights
- Present findings and progress through visual storytelling and technical reporting for varied stakeholders.
- Contribute to Blackwall’s growing AI capability by sharing knowledge, mentoring peers, and refining our data science culture.
Essential Skills & Requirements
- 3+ years of experience applying data science in production systems, ideally within high-throughput or real-time environments.
- Strong background in behavioural modeling, anomaly detection, and adversarial AI techniques for detecting bot behaviour.
- Strong programming ability across Python, C++, and SQL; capable of working beyond Python-only environments.
- Deep understanding of machine learning techniques, particularly for security-related use cases such as classification, anomaly detection, and behaviour analysis.
- Hands-on experience building, fine-tuning, and integrating LLMs or generative AI frameworks.
- Background in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field; MSc or PhD preferred.
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams to build and scale data pipelines and ML infrastructure.
- Proven track record of delivering measurable business or product impact through data science.
- Excellent communication skills – able to articulate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Bonus Points
- Experience in cybersecurity, fraud prevention, or bot mitigation. Familiarity with cloud-native tools like BigQuery, Airflow, or Spark, and Kubernetes.
- Contributions to open-source AI or security tooling.
At Blackwall, we believe diversity drives innovation. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates, regardless of background or identity. Let’s build a safer internet together.
