About the Role

We’re looking for skilled Backend Software Engineers excited by the challenge of building highly scalable, resilient, and secure server-side systems designed for AI-driven workflows. You'll tackle complex problems in distributed systems design, optimize data pipelines for real-time AI interactions, and build the robust infrastructure handling potentially millions of automated tasks daily. You'll primarily use Java (Spring Boot) and Python on AWS, design critical APIs, manage data persistence (PostgreSQL, Redis), and ensure seamless integration with messaging systems like Kafka. You'll collaborate closely with frontend, product, and our AI/ML teams, gaining exposure to how backend systems power intelligent applications and exploring ways AI can enhance development velocity and system performance.

This role is fully remote, based in Romania. We embrace a flexible remote work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and applications primarily using Java (Spring Boot) and Python.
• Create well-documented, reliable, and performant RESTful APIs using standards like OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Design and implement backend systems capable of efficiently serving, monitoring, and interacting with machine learning models and AI workflows.
• Design data models and manage interactions with databases like PostgreSQL and caching systems like Redis.
• Build, deploy, and manage applications and infrastructure on AWS (utilizing services like S3, ECS, Lambda, CloudWatch).
• Implement and maintain integrations with asynchronous messaging systems like Kafka or equivalents.
• Utilize Docker for containerization, manage code with Git, and contribute to building and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline).
• Implement and adhere to security best practices, including secure coding patterns, authentication/authorization (OAuth2, JWT).
• Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting using tools like AWS CloudWatch to ensure system health and performance.
• Explore and leverage modern development practices, potentially including AI-assisted tooling, to accelerate the delivery of high-quality code and enhance system observability.
• Work effectively with frontend engineers, AI/ML specialists, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver cohesive solutions.
• Champion high-quality code, perform code reviews, and advocate for engineering best practices.

You’ll Excel in This Role If You:

• Have Proven Backend Engineering Experience: Several years of hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating backend systems in production environments.
• Are Proficient in Java or Python: Strong programming skills in Java (ideally with Spring Boot) and/or Python 3.x for backend development.
• Embrace Cloud Technologies: Enjoy working with and have experience building solutions on cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
• Are Passionate About APIs: Have a strong understanding of RESTful API design principles and best practices.
• Are Curious about AI/ML concepts and interested in building the infrastructure that powers intelligent systems.
• Are a Collaborative Problem Solver: Thrive in a team environment, enjoy tackling complex technical challenges, and communicate effectively.
• Focus on Quality & Scalability: Understand the importance of writing clean, testable, maintainable code and building systems that scale.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrable track record of building and deploying complex backend systems in production.
• Strong proficiency with Java (Spring Boot) or Python 3.x for backend development (experience with both is a plus).
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs, with knowledge of OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and caching (Redis preferred).
• Practical experience with AWS cloud services (e.g., ECS, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, SQS).
• Experience with messaging/streaming platforms like Kafka or similar.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD principles and tools (Git, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline).
• Understanding of security concepts like OAuth2, JWT, and secure coding practices.
• Experience with microservices architecture is a plus.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation) is beneficial.
