Role

We are looking for a Senior iOS Camera & Video Engineer to join BeReal and work on one of the most critical parts of our product: the camera experience.

You will build and improve the capture, image, and video pipelines behind BeReal's core flows — including multi-camera capture, instant capture, front/back video composition, and media quality.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working close to Apple's media APIs, solving real-time performance challenges, and delivering a fast, reliable, high-quality experience.

What you will do:

Design, build, and maintain high-performance camera and video features on iOS.
Own and improve parts of our AVFoundation camera stack: capture sessions, devices, formats, frame rates, exposure, and device capabilities.
Build and optimize real-time image and video processing pipelines.
Improve capture quality, latency, stability, and smoothness across supported iPhone models.
Work on multi-camera flows, front/back video composition, video encoding, media export, and audio/video synchronization.
Optimize CPU, GPU, memory, battery usage, thermal behaviour, buffer allocation, and multithreaded processing.
Investigate device-specific and iOS-version-specific behaviour, and propose pragmatic technical trade-offs.
Work closely with iOS engineers, product, design, backend, and data teams.
Contribute directly to the codebase and raise engineering standards around media performance and reliability.

Profile

6+ years of iOS experience, including strong hands-on work on camera, video, or media-heavy features.
Deep expertise with AVFoundation and iOS camera APIs: AVCaptureSession, AVCaptureDevice, video outputs, capture formats, frame rates, exposure, and device configuration.
Strong experience designing and optimizing real-time camera, image, and video pipelines, with a solid understanding of media formats, encoding, buffer management, and capture quality and performance constraints.
Strong performance mindset: CPU/GPU usage, memory, battery, thermal constraints, multithreading, and minimising buffer copies.
Comfortable with iOS profiling tools such as Instruments, Time Profiler, Allocations, and Metal System Trace.
Strong Swift skills. Experience with Metal, Core Image, or lower-level Apple APIs is a plus.
Autonomous, pragmatic, and comfortable solving complex hardware/software limitations.

Bonus:

Experience with multi-camera capture or front/back video composition.
Experience with Metal or GPU-accelerated image processing.
Experience in consumer social, gaming, creative tools, or another real-time mobile product.
