Role Description:PERSOL is now supporting a leading Defence consultancy on a Defence contract opportunity (ASAP until 30th June 2027) for a Software Engineer / Network Technician supporting the Air Warfare System Program Office.Location: Newcastle, remote will be considered.This position operates within a complex operational environment, contributing to the sustainment, governance, assurance, and integration of 4SQN ICT systems, including Tactical Data Links and core mission systems.You'll play a vital role across both operational support and project delivery, ensuring systems remain compliant, interoperable, and mission ready throughout the capability lifecycle, including Test and Evaluation (PT&E) phases. Working closely with Defence stakeholders, program offices, and industry partners, you'll help drive the delivery and sustainment of critical capabilities.As a key contributor, you'll engage with Stakeholders at all levels, build strong working relationships, and act as a trusted point of contact for ICT operational support, engineering activities, and system governance. This full-time position is based at Williamtown, near Newcastle.
DeliverablesDay to Day Tasks include:Act as a key point of contact for operational ICT support, engaging with Defence stakeholders, NETTECHs, CCT personnel, and industry partnersDeliver ICT training and mentorship to support workforce capability developmentProvide operational support and sustainment for the 4SQN ICT fleet, ensuring system availability and performanceSupport governance, policy, and compliance activities aligned with CASG BMS and Defence requirementsManage sustainment and PT&E activities for operational and trial ICT capabilities in collaboration with relevant SPOsCoordinate vendor support and sustainment arrangements, ensuring compliance with contractual obligationsManage fleet training, sustainment planning, and capability delivery for program-level ICT systemsMaintain control of cryptographic material and coordinate technical maintenance activitiesEnsure system conformance, ATO, and compliance with MIL-STD and accreditation frameworks for ICT systemsConduct Verification and Validation (V&V) and support system integration and interoperability activitiesCoordinate defect management (RODUM) and develop user requirements to address capability gaps and enhancements Essential Requirements:Experienced ICT professional with Network Technician and/or Software Engineering expertise, operating effectively in complex Defence environmentsTertiary qualifications in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline, or equivalent industry experienceStrong knowledge of ICT sustainment, system assurance, governance, and lifecycle management, including accreditation and compliance frameworksDemonstrated experience in V&V, system compliance (e.g., MIL-STD), and Authorities to Operate (ATO)Experience supporting ICT sustainment, PT&E, system integration, and capability enhancement activitiesSound understanding of Defence governance and procurement frameworks (e.g., CASG BMS, ERP, NDS)Proven ability to engage and collaborate with technical teams, stakeholders, and industry, applying a practical, risk-based approachExperience working with secure ICT systems and managing cryptographic materialsStrong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and advisory outputs
