About the Opportunity
Azooa is seeking experienced Developers to join the Australian Taxation Office’s (ATO) Enterprise Data & Analytics (ED&A) uplift — one of the most impactful digital programs underway in the Australian Public Service.
This multi-year transformation is focused on building modern, cloud-native, secure, and scalable systems that support real-time data, automation, and smarter service delivery.
As a Developer in this program, you’ll be hands-on with Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS, working in Agile teams to deliver high-performance microservices and APIs that support analytics, integration, and internal digital capability.
This is a role with real national impact, high visibility, and the chance to work with a team committed to secure, modern, and maintainable public infrastructure.
Role Overview
You’ll join one of several Agile delivery teams focused on creating cloud-native components that support:
- Scalable analytics platforms
- Secure data integrations
- Automation and API orchestration
- CI/CD-enabled government services
- Real-time operational data use
This is a technical, delivery-focused role for someone who takes pride in clean code, testing discipline, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop APIs and services using Node.js and TypeScript
- Build scalable, serverless applications using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, S3, CloudWatch
- Create and maintain automated tests (unit, integration) using tools like Mocha, Chai, or Jest
- Follow test-driven development (TDD) and clean architecture principles
- Integrate code into automated CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab, or Azure DevOps
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (daily standups, planning, retrospectives)
- Work closely with testers, architects, security analysts, and product owners
- Support performance tuning, monitoring, and system observability
- Document APIs, interfaces, and service flows clearly for future reuse and handover
- Embed security into the SDLC and contribute to DevSecOps practices
- Review code, provide feedback, and collaborate on shared patterns and architecture decisions
Required Skills and Experience
- Proficient in Node.js and TypeScript
- Experience building REST APIs, backend services, and cloud functions
- Hands-on knowledge of AWS services: Lambda, API Gateway, CloudWatch, IAM, S3
- Strong understanding of serverless and microservices architecture
- Experience working in Agile delivery teams
- Proficiency in using Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI, and Git-based workflows
- Experience with automated testing and TDD
- Familiarity with secure coding and API governance best practices
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- NV1 Security Clearance (mandatory – must be held before start)
Desirable Skills
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps)
- Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, ECS, EKS)
- Understanding of DevSecOps and cloud security design
- Background in public sector or regulated environments
- Experience with data platforms, real-time streaming (e.g., Kinesis), or ETL services
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform or CloudFormation)
