At Avalara, we are building the global cloud compliance platform and the ATR team is responsible for providing the API's and engineering solutions to make our customer's lives better.

In This Role You Will

• Participate, review, and provide feedback of documentation and code. Formally accept deliverables to ensure compliance and quality standards.
• Ensure that observability deliverables, proactively monitor Avalara customer facing, critical applications.
• Work with team and other stakeholders to understand requirements and come up with best technical solutions.
• Plan, design, develop, and test software systems and applications for enhancements or new products. Build proof of concept to demonstrate the technical solution feasibility,
• Customer escalations and inquiries.
• Automating deployment processes, including collaborating with engineering development teams implementing GitLab CI/CD pipelines, ensuring the reliability, observability, and optimization of compute resources.
• Work closely with the Engineering Operation Center (EOC) to ensure supportability and knowledge sharing. The EOC is a gate to ensure consistent standards of operational excellence using a comprehensive Software Maturity Metrics (SMM) assessment.
• Support AWS, GCP, and OCI clouds world wide.
• Participate in Tier 2 on-call rotation for a multitude of services
• Advanced English, spoken and written.
• 5+ years enterprise-class experience with large scale cloud solutions. GCP is highly desirable. GCP, OCI and Azure are a plus.
• 5+ years enterprise-class application experience with production deployments of a Golang based project.
• Strong application troubleshooting.
• Work independently and as a team player, as required for the project at hand.
• Review and sign off on processes. Provide feedback on improvements. Develop new processes to drive efficiency and quality. Focus areas are performance, application availability, monitoring improvements and application deployment runbooks.
• Review and provide feedback on project documentation, such as architecture designs, implementation plans, design documents, test plans, etc..
• Solid Linux understanding including containerization.
• Ability to reverse engineer and troubleshoot software systems.
• Experience in performance diagnostics, capacity planning, performance architecture design, performance tuning, performance monitoring.
• Experience working with load balanced high-traffic solutions/services.
• Experience in SQL and database services.
• BS in Computer Science with 5 or more years of relevant work experience.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Technologies you are likely to be working with: Google Cloud, AWS, GitLab, Atlassian suite, PowerShell, Python, Terraform & HashiCorp suite, Postgres, SQL, Packer, SumoLogic, Grafana, Prometheus, HAproxy, RabbitMQ, Windows, Linux, Docker and containerization technologies etc.

Desirable Qualifications

• Good data analysis skills to pick up trends before they become major problems.
• Previous experience as an enterprise class Site Reliability Engineer.
• A strong mix of Software Engineer and Operation Support skills.
• Desire to learn new technologies and programming languages.
• Experience with government regulation access and process auditing
