What We Do: FDA-approved LUMRYZ (sodium oxybate) is a central nervous system depressant indicated for the treatment of cataplexy or excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) in patients 7 years of age and older with narcolepsy. The FDA found LUMRYZ to be clinically superior to currently marketed twice nightly oxybate products and granted LUMRYZ seven years of Orphan Drug Exclusivity for adults on May 1, 2023, and again for pediatric patients 7 years and older on October 16, 2024. In both instances, FDA found that LUMRYZ makes a major contribution to patient care over currently available, twice-nightly oxybate products by providing a once-nightly dosing regimen that avoids nocturnal awakening to take a second dose.

Position Summary

The Director, Peer to Peer (P2P) Marketing & Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Engagement will be a critical member of the brand team responsible for continuing the launch of LUMRYZ for the treatment of narcolepsy. We are looking for a passionate P2P marketer who is equally comfortable developing high-level brand strategies and “rolling up their sleeves” to implement tactics. S/he will lead the development and implementation of P2P & KOL engagement activities as the medical marketer within the brand team. This is a unique opportunity for a dynamic, experienced pharmaceutical marketer to be a major contributor to an exciting launch in the orphan/rare disease area to help people living with the chronic CNS condition of narcolepsy.

Essential Functions

HCP Peer-to-Peer & KOL Marketing Expertise (physician, NP/PA, etc.)

  • Contribute to the strategic development and execution of brand initiatives.
  • Lead the development of promotional peer-to-peer strategy and content including the opinion leader engagement strategy, speaker bureau and congresses.
  • Partner with Sr Director of HCP Marketing to ensure alignment of KOL and congress plans with overall HCP brand plan and strategy.
  • Liaise with thought leaders by conducting field visits, attending congress meetings, designing consultant and advisory programs and presenting Avadel at other events.
  • Develop congress and conference strategy and be the primary person responsible for the execution of those plans.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with professional organizations and other stakeholders.
  • Lead the planning, program, and content development of unbranded and/or branded promotional programs, including Speaker Bureau, conference activities such as Product Theaters, and related programs inclusive of sponsorships, BNF development and contracting.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the medical marketing agency and other business partners for projects related to medical marketing including being the primary point of contact for any speaker bureau activity.
  • Stay abreast of related/disease state science via medical and scientific literature, scientific meetings and symposia.
  • Liaise with medical affairs, Sr Director of HCP Marketing and VP of Marketing on data needs and dissemination plans and serve as the primary point of contact for the MSL organization to the brand team.
  • Project manage marketing plans and deliverables through stages of strategic planning, content development, promotional/medical/legal/regulatory review, production, deployment, measurement, and optimization to meet objectives on time and on budget.
  • Bring an innovative, entrepreneurial attitude and combine out-of-the box ideas with established marketing tactics to identify efficient and appropriate channels for engaging with HCPs on disease education and branded messaging in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborate with market research to understand and analyze market, competitive and customer trends, opportunities, and challenges to the business.

Agency & Budget Management

  • Interact with external agency partners to execute plans and tactics effectively, on time and within budget; communicate the strategic direction for the brand and hold partners accountable for success metrics.

Other Key Duties/Responsibilities

  • Be a pivotal member of the Brand and Commercial Launch teams.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including marketing, sales, market access, patient services/fulfillment, medical, commercial insights & analytics, regulatory / compliance, and others.
  • Drive the spirit of ONE Team across all functions to support a full team approach to focus on our patients and customers as our top priority.

  • Dealing Well with Ambiguity / Intensity – operates well in a demanding environment driven by senior leadership requests and evolving needs
  • Independence – able to manage workload with limited guidance and support in prioritization; effective managing to expectations and ability to scope/prioritize work with high independence

Experience And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in the fields of Marketing, Business, or a life-science related discipline
  • 10-12 years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology marketing, with a minimum of 2 years of experience successfully executing peer-to-peer programs
  • Specialty/orphan branded product experience desired, preferably within CNS, neurology, or sleep medicine therapeutic areas
  • Prior experience planning and executing conference plans
  • Prior experience with compliance guardrails associated with HCP interactions
  • Prior experience in field sales or sales training would be a plus
  • Prior experience with a REMS product or controlled substance helpful
  • Up to 40-50% travel
  • Certain customers and/or Health Care Professionals may have credentialing requirements that apply to field roles to gain access to perform the essential functions of the position. In these cases, credentialing requirements must be met (which may include vaccinations such as influenza and COVID-19). Talk with a People & Culture Representative if there are questions.
