About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you are a lead architect and product builder, responsible for turning ambitious ideas into tangible, high-impact technology. This is a senior individual contributor role for a master engineer who is obsessed with the craft of building products from zero to one. You will be a foundational member of the engineering team, taking ownership of entire product verticals, from the user-facing BetSmart application to new AI-driven data products.

This role is for a builder who has a proven track record of taking products from concept to launch and wants to make a massive impact. You will work directly with our leadership and quantitative researchers to architect, build, and ship the robust, elegant, and intelligent systems that will define our success.

What You'll Do

• Product-First Architecture: Translate product vision and complex user needs into robust, scalable, and elegant technical solutions.
• End-to-End Ownership: Lead the full development lifecycle for new features and products—from ideation and rapid prototyping through to deployment, testing, and iteration.
• Build Groundbreaking Products: Architect and build the core of the BetSmart application and new AI-driven products, ensuring they are not only scalable but also provide a world-class user experience.
• Write Exceptional Code: Ship high-quality, well-tested, and maintainable code that serves as the standard for engineering excellence at Astera.
• Collaborate & Influence: Work closely with leadership, quantitative researchers, and designers to define product roadmaps and shape the future of our technology.
• Mentor & Elevate: Act as a technical leader and mentor for other engineers, elevating the team's capabilities through rigorous code reviews, architectural guidance, and sharing your deep expertise.

What We're Looking For

• A 0-to-1 Product Builder: A proven track record of building and launching successful products from concept to launch, ideally in a startup environment. You thrive in ambiguity and are an expert at turning ideas into reality.
• AI Startup Experience (Highly Valued): You have experience building and shipping products at an AI-native or data-intensive company. You understand how to build applications on top of complex models and data pipelines.
• Exceptional Engineering Craft: Deep, hands-on expertise across the stack. While you may have a backend focus (e.g., Go, Rust, Python), you are comfortable with the technologies needed to build a complete product.
• Pragmatic Architect: A deep understanding of system design, microservices, database design (SQL & NoSQL), and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP), applied with a practical, product-driven mindset.
• A First-Principles Problem Solver: The ability to deconstruct complex challenges and build elegant, efficient solutions from the ground up.
• A Bias for Action & Ownership: A self-starter mentality with a relentless focus on shipping and taking full ownership of your work from concept to production.

Bonus Points If You

• Have deep experience with our stack: Proven expertise building modern, user-first applications with SvelteKit, TypeScript, and TailwindCSS.
• Are a Supabase expert: Hands-on experience leveraging Supabase for backend services, including Authentication, PostgreSQL, and real-time capabilities.
• Utilize AI in your workflow: A passion for using AI development tools to accelerate product creation and stay on the cutting edge of technology.
• Have built data-intensive products: Experience integrating with complex, real-time data APIs, particularly in the sports or financial technology domains.
• Have shipped mobile apps: A track record of building cross-platform mobile applications using web technologies like Capacitor.
• Have a passion for great UI/UX: A strong eye for design and experience building beautiful, responsive interfaces with modern component libraries like shadcn-svelte.
