Principle Ground Software Engineer

AST SpaceMobile and our global partners are building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network to be accessible by standard smartphones. Called SpaceMobile, this ultra-powerful network is being designed to provide connectivity at 4G/5G speeds everywhere on the planet – on land, at sea and in flight.

Summary:

AST SpaceMobile is looking to hire an principle engineer with experience in full-stack development who will be responsible for a large portion of software and infrastructure to support Ground Software and Mission Operations. Given this, a successful candidate for this position will have familiarity with Software Design Principals and some familiarity with Operations Development. The candidate will be an integral member of the Ground Software Team, which is responsible for the software used to assist in communication and control of our satellites. The candidate will have a large amount of latitude in terms of how they choose to develop systems, so they must be a self-starter and willing to lead efforts to develop new systems. This candidate will be expected to have a few direct reports and also work with software teams in our India division as well.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design and implement software applications in support of mission operations for constellation-based satellites
• Design, implement and maintain a network infrastructure in support of ground to satellite communication systems
• Debug and troubleshoot any software bugs identified in network or full-stack software
• Collaborate across various sub-systems and address any pain-points through ground software applications focusing on automation.
• Be one of the leaders within the ground software group (US and India)
• Be a strong individual contributor (70% contribution, 30 % managerial)
• Track project deliverables across the team
• Provide technical guidance and help uphold industry best practices

Minimum Qualifications:

• At least 10 years experience in an application development position

• Strong software engineering experience

• Proficiency in implementing DevOps systems

• Proficiency with version control systems

• Proficiency with Networking concepts and Fundamentals

• Proficiency in Full Stack development

• Experience with programming languages like C, C++, Java, Python, Go, or other programming languages

• Experience with frameworks such as:

• NodeJS, FastAPI, NestJS, Fiber

• Express, OpenAPI, Swagger, TypeORM

• Angular, Vue, React

• Flutter, Swift, Android Studio

• Experience with concurrent (multithreaded) programming practices and libraries

• Experience using Cloud Providers (specifically AWS)

• Experience with containerization such as Docker

• Comfortable working on different operating systems such as Linux and Windows depending on the task.

• Experience using both relational and non-relational databases

• Experience with centralized logging systems (Splunk/ Elasticsearch)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency with implementing DevOps concepts complex environments

• Continuous integration

• Continuous testing

• Continuous deployment

• Continuous monitoring

• Experience developing platform agnostic applications (works on iOS, android and web)

• Strong front-end design and development experience

• Experience with front-end mockup software such as Adobe XD or Figma

• Experience with shell scripting languages such as bash and powershell
