Ashburn Consulting is teaming up with The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) to advance its digital modernization initiatives by providing robust IT services to support its internal workforce.
The Server Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining an organization's server infrastructure. This role is crucial for ensuring that servers operate efficiently, securely, and reliably, supporting various applications and services essential to business operations. Responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing an organization's server infrastructure. This role involves ensuring system security, performance, and availability while troubleshooting and resolving complex issues.
Responsibilities:
- Server Management: Allocate, install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers, (Windows/Linux).
- Installation and Configuration: Set up and configure server hardware and software to meet 10 Organizational requirements. Documenting server disposition within an enterprise platform.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor system performance and implement necessary upgrades to ensure high availability and efficiency.
- Security & Compliance: Manage security patches, and updates to protect against cyber threats.
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Implement and manage backup solutions to ensure data integrity and continuity.
- Cloud & Virtualization: Configure and manage cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft (MS) Azure, or Google Cloud, and virtual environments (VMware, Hyper-V, Virtual Desktop.
- Infrastructure (VDI).
- Automation & Scripting: Develop scripts (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation and system improvements.
- Network Infrastructure: Collaborate with network teams to ensure seamless server-network integration.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose and resolve server-related incidents, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain detailed documentation of server configurations, policies, and procedures.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Mentor junior administrators and work closely with IT teams to implement best practices.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is required.
- Relevant certifications, such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or VMware Certified Professional.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Willingness to take ownership and be accountable where appropriate.
- Strong technical background that will allow for an understanding of our infrastructure/environment.
