Aquia is hiring multiple Software Engineers to support an initiative for the State of Maryland. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing high-quality, testable and scalable code; primarily in Ruby. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. and will be subject to a background investigation.
What you'll do:
- Develop high-quality, testable and scalable web applications
- Collaborate with designers to deliver functional and efficient user interfaces
- Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance
- Analyze, maintain and extend existing features
- Develop unit, integration and end-to-end tests
- Discover and fix bugs
- Participate in code reviews
- Follow best practice guidelines for maintainability and style
What we're looking for:
- At least 6 years of hands-on professional work experience building web applications and creating APIs
- Proficiency with Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Rspec, ERB templates
- Familiarity with static HTML generators and content management systems (CMS)
- Working-level knowledge and hands-on experience with AWS S3, SQS, GitHub,
- Understanding of web and mobile user interface design best practices
- Should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment in a self-directed manner that requires minimal supervision
- Familiarity with web accessibility standards to deliver services that are not just minimally accessible, but a simple and intuitive experience for all users, including those who rely on assistive technologies
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
