Sr. Data Scientist – Marketing Optimization & Measurement
Location: Remote (Remote flexibility with quarterly travel to Minneapolis)
Experience Level: Mid-Senior
Team Structure: Lead 2 offshore Data Scientists
Industry Focus: Marketing Measurement and Optimization
Client-Facing Role: Yes
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Scientist to architect and lead the development of advanced marketing measurement and optimization systems for a high-impact client account. This role is ideal for someone deeply analytical, communicative, and hands-on, who thrives in building complex algorithmic frameworks and simultaneously driving strategic client conversations.
As a technical and strategic lead, you will balance hands-on data science work with oversight of an offshore team, working closely with marketing stakeholders to translate business goals into sophisticated measurement and modeling solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement complex multi-algorithmic systems that power marketing measurement and optimization platforms, including custom optimization routines.
- Develop and execute Media Mix Modeling (MMM) and broader marketing attribution models tailored to client objectives.
- Apply mathematical optimization techniques such as gradient descent, greedy algorithms, curve fitting, and linear programming to solve real-world business problems.
- Lead and mentor a small offshore team of Data Scientists, ensuring quality of delivery and technical alignment.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, communicating effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders (e.g., marketing analysts, project managers, executive leadership).
- Write production-grade Python code and work hands-on with data 30+ hours per week.
- Translate ambiguous business questions into robust data science methodologies and experimental designs.
- Travel to Minneapolis quarterly for in-person client engagement and collaboration.
Requirements
- ~7+ years of experience in data science or a similar quantitative field.
- Strong background in mathematical optimization and curve fitting techniques.
- Demonstrated excellence in Python programming (clean, production-ready code expected).
- Proven ability to design and execute MMM and attribution models in marketing environments.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; must be comfortable leading technical discussions with clients and internal teams.
- Experience in team leadership or mentoring, especially in a distributed or offshore context.
- Demonstrated client-facing experience with high emotional intelligence and situational awareness.
- Master’s or PhD (preferred) in a research-heavy discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with timeseries forecasting methods and tools.
- Background in marketing agencies or client-services environments.
- Past exposure to generative AI tools or research.
- Public codebase or GitHub portfolio to showcase technical depth.
- Familiarity with large-scale media investment analysis and ROI modeling.
- Local to Atlanta, GA or able to travel periodically.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- You are an academic-minded problem solver, comfortable with ambiguity and skilled in translating research concepts into business-ready solutions.
- You enjoy hands-on work and want to stay close to the codebase while steering strategic direction.
- You have strong instincts for optimizing client relationships, including proactive communication and political fluency.
- You’re excited to lead a small but mighty team while contributing individually at a high level.
