Job Description

We are seeking a multi-skilled Motion Designer with proficiency in product design. We are looking for a designer who has demonstrated the ability to effectively partner with product managers, engineers, researchers, and other designers; and someone who has a talent for telling stories through motion.

This role is for our clients feeds and news space and will help them redefine how their customers read news, with the help of AI to increase topic comprehension, spot misinformation, and limit bias in news coverage.

Responsibilities

Explore, iterate, and create inspiring product experiences based on deep understanding of Microsoft customers, partners, and business strategies.
Strong passion for motion and animation, aiming to simplify complex interactions and solve challenging design problems.
Define and improve the look and feel of our products through motion design.
Work creatively around technical implementation challenges to provide delightful motion design for our customers.
Craft thoughtful, innovative, elegant, and beautiful motion designs, while being proficient in rapidly produce rough motion sketches.
Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary team designers, engineers, and project managers to ensure shipping products matches motion design specs and meets the quality bar set by design.
Communicate with developers through the code implementation phase to realize design vision.
Document design and animation decisions as specs for future team and product reference. Should be able to make hand-off to partners effortless and smooth.
Understand the array of technical constraints, user goals and business requirements that shape current and future products.
Follow, adapt, and evolve motion language and principles according to each design problem.

Requirements

Bachelors degree in User Experience, Motion, Animation, Interaction or Graphic Design or equivalent design-related field.
4+ years professional experience as a UX motion designer or similar design role.
Understanding of the basic principles of user experience (UX), graphic design, visual, motion, animation, patterns, and physics.
Experience in a variety of design tools such as Figma, ProtoPie, Adobe Suits, LottieFiles and other motion design and prototyping tools.
Online portfolio highlighting multiple projects that demonstrate Motion Design and/or Interaction Design in web contexts, and your direct contributions to those projects.

Figma skills (advanced) - 8+ YOE
AfterEffects (advanced) - 8+ YOE
Protopie (ideal, but not a deal-breaker) - 5+ YOE

Typical Work Breakdown

50% - Taking static designs from Figma and turning them into video demos for concept pitches and early user research.
25% - Creating videos for stitching together multiple feature videos and putting them to music for sizzle reels.
25% - Product design, focusing on subtle animations to add polish to the UI.
