Lead Software Engineer

Duration: 8 weeks (with potential to extend)

Location: Remote (UK-based candidates only)

Rate: £650/day (Inside IR35)

An innovative organisation within the health tech space is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join an agile cross-functional team working on a transformative digital platform.

This is a greenfield project where your expertise will help drive forward new feature development, influence architectural decisions, and ensure best-in-class engineering practices across the full stack.

This is an exciting short-term engagement for someone who enjoys leading from the front, mentoring developers, and being deeply involved in both technical execution and decision-making. You'll be working with a passionate team that values clean, scalable code and delivering impact within a meaningful sector.

The Tech Environment:

You’ll be working in a modern and well-structured stack. The team is looking for someone who can hit the ground running with most of the following:

Backend:

• Nest.js
• TypeORM
• PostgreSQL
• Azure Functions

Frontend:

• React
• TypeScript
• Tailwind CSS
• Storybook

DevOps / Tooling:

• Azure
• Docker
• Swagger (OpenAPI)
• Jira

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of new features and platform improvements
• Support and mentor mid-level and junior engineers across the team
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and QA to ensure technical feasibility and delivery timelines
• Participate in architectural discussions and guide best practices for scalability and maintainability
• Write clean, well-documented, and tested code
• Identify bottlenecks and propose solutions to improve system performance

What We're Looking For:

• Proven experience in leading software engineering teams or projects
• Strong hands-on skills in both backend (Nest.js, PostgreSQL) and frontend (React, TypeScript) technologies
• Experience working with cloud-native architectures, particularly in Azure
• Ability to communicate effectively across teams and contribute to technical strategy
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies
