Trainee Project Controls – Project Planner

Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) via AMS Skills Creation

Location: Sites may include Hunterston, Dungeness, Sizewell, Winfrith or Trawsfynydd.

Are you organised, analytical, and interested in how major projects are planned and delivered?

Whether you're a recent graduate, career changer, veteran, or looking to reskill, this is an exciting opportunity to start a career in Project Controls and Planning through the AMS Skills Creation Recruit, Train, Deploy Programme.

You'll join a structured pathway supporting Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS), helping deliver some of the UK's most important nuclear decommissioning and infrastructure projects.

The Opportunity

Begin with 10 weeks of fully funded virtual training, designed to equip you with the skills needed to succeed as a Project Controls Planner.

Training includes: Project Controls Fundamentals, Planning & Scheduling, Risk Management and more.

Following successful completion, you'll be deployed into a Project Controls Planner role supporting live projects across NRS.

No previous Project Controls experience is required – just curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to learn.

The Role

As a Trainee Project Controls Planner, you'll help keep major projects on track by supporting planning, scheduling, reporting, forecasting, and risk management activities.

Working alongside Project Managers, Engineers, and Project Controls specialists, you will:

  • Support project planning and scheduling activities
  • Monitor progress and produce performance reports
  • Identify risks, issues, and potential delays
  • Support forecasting and project controls reporting
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to support successful project delivery

Think of this role as the control tower of a project—providing the insight and information needed to help projects succeed.

Previous experience in project controls, finance, estimating, data analysis or engineering environments may be helpful, but it is not essential.

Working Pattern — Post Training

Following successful completion of training and deployment into NRS, you’ll benefit from a compressed working week:

37 hours per week

9.25 hours per day

Monday to Thursday*

Every Friday off

* with the exception of Winfrith which operates a 4.5 day on-site policy per week.
