About American Global Logistics

American Global Logistics (AGL) is a U.S.-based freight forwarding and logistics provider serving importers across a range of industries. We combine hands-on logistics expertise with technology our customers rely on to manage their supply chains.

Our in-house engineering team builds and maintains the software that powers the business, including full-stack web applications, backend services and APIs, data pipelines, reporting, and a growing suite of AI- and agent-based automation. We are a small team that values technical depth and engineers who take ownership of their work from end to end.

The Role

We are hiring a Software Engineer to build across the full stack. You will develop backend services in Python, build and maintain front-end applications, and design and optimize the SQL Server data layer that supports them. You will also build integrations and automation that connect our internal systems with external tools and services.

This is a hands-on engineering role on a small team, giving you ownership of projects from technical design through production deployment and ongoing support. You'll work directly with the operations teams who use the software you build.

Responsibilities:

Build

  • Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications, from the database and backend services through the user interface.
  • Write clean, tested, production-quality Python for backend services, automation, and data processing.
  • Write and optimize T-SQL in SQL Server, including complex queries, views, stored procedures, and data models.
  • Design, build, and version RESTful APIs and webhooks for internal use and third-party integrations.
  • Build AI- and agent-based automation for document processing, data extraction, and repetitive operational tasks.

Integrate

  • Integrate internal systems with external tools, third-party APIs, and file- or EDI-based data exchanges.
  • Handle authentication, error handling, retries, and data transformation across system boundaries.
  • Reconcile and validate data moving between systems.

Ship and Operate

  • Deploy solutions to production with appropriate monitoring, logging, error handling, and recovery.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data, performance, and workflow issues across multiple systems.
  • Build reports and dashboards that provide the business with visibility into operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production applications.
  • Strong professional experience developing with Python.
  • Strong T-SQL and SQL Server development experience, including query optimization, stored procedures, and data modeling.
  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party services.
  • Full-stack web development experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and a modern front-end framework.
  • Experience building AI-, agent-based, or automation solutions in a production environment.
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative, test-driven development workflows.
  • Experience owning projects through the full software development lifecycle, from requirements through deployment and support.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions with minimal oversight.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with OCR or document processing, and familiarity with LLM or agent frameworks.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices.
  • Experience with EDI or other structured, file-based data exchanges.
  • Experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain is helpful for ramping up quickly, but not required. We're happy to teach the business domain to a strong engineer.
