Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Sr. Experience Designer, App

REPORTS TO: Manager - Experience Design

Position Summary

As the Sr. Experience Designer of App at AEO Inc., you will design UX/UI experiences supporting the digital shopping initiatives within AEO’s portfolio. You have a strong user interface and interaction design aesthetic that ties brand expressions and systems thinking together with a mastery of human-centered UX design disciplines, with visual design being your strong suit.

You’ll focus on optimizing and modernizing our core e-commerce experiences, with a particular emphasis and passion for iOS, Android apps, as well as the in-store technology innovation. Do you geek out on the nuances of app design and how they differ from the web? Love to trial new technology innovations in malls and retail environments? Obsess over clean UI? We hope so! Your work will enhance the customer’s journey to conversion through frictionless, on-brand, and visually engaging interfaces that align with AEO’s customer-first values and business objectives.

In this role, you'll contribute to modernizing and maintaining our app technology, ensuring cohesive and responsive experiences across devices, platforms and in-store experiences. You'll collaborate closely with stakeholders to bring diverse visions to life, leveraging your expertise and obsession with UX/UI design. Data-driven insights and collaboration will inform your design work, with continuous testing and iteration to improve key metrics like conversion, engagement, and user satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • In this role, design the end-to-end design process, focused on customer-facing checkout, transaction, and international e-commerce experiences,
  • Collaborate with other UX designers, strategists, product managers, developers, and copywriters to produce both low- and high-fidelity prototypes, actively soliciting feedback from leaders, peers and cross-functional stakeholders through the product design lifecycle.
  • Explore diverse design concepts and iterate rapidly in a fast-paced, experiment-driven environment.
  • Employ a refined sense of visual and interaction design that seamlessly blends AE and Aerie’s unique brand identities and voices together within a design system, enabling you to work within and contribute to the evolution and scale of that system.
  • Engage the UX research team at the right points during the design process to ensure the right insights inform the work.
  • Deliver polished designs — from happy path to edge case identification — displaying strategic thinking and attention to detail with a proven ability to launch successful products and experiments in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Develop hypotheses and designs for A/B testing, focusing on optimizing key conversion points without the checkout experience.
  • Demonstrate an excellent understanding of UX methodologies and modern UI design trends, best practices, and the latest tools, with a particular focus on mobile-first, form field, and transaction optimization design.
  • Translate industry standards, like Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), into understandable and approachable deliverables to uplevel designers and writers. Remain highly proficient in Figma, modernizing design processes and coaching other designers to improve their skills.
  • Approach problems with a collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset, working independently when needed.
  • Communicate and present confidently to leadership, showcasing strong storytelling skills.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience, iOS app design experience ideal
  • A portfolio highlighting relevant design work, especially in e-commerce or app experiences.
  • Expert in Figma and other design tools.
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and a passion for UX/UI.
  • Effective in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
  • Proven ability to clearly communicate design decisions and rationale.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills, able to convey complex ideas across different audiences and levels.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, thriving in constrained or undefined situations

Pay/Benefits Information

  • Subject to eligibility requirements, associates may receive health care benefits (including medical, vision, and dental); wellness benefits; 401(k) retirement benefits; life and disability insurance; employee stock purchase program; paid time off; paid sick leave; and parental leave and benefits.
