This position will support the strategic planning and own the implementation of email marketing strategies for the American Cancer Society to create and optimize coordinated multi-channel fundraising programs and enhance customer experience. The Senior Specialist, Email Marketing is responsible for email production, execution, testing, proofreading, deployment, and reporting of email campaigns. They are accountable for the successful and timely deployment of a high volume of emails for a variety of programs and fundraising campaigns. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills with the ability to understand business needs and provide viable and innovative solutions to problems, is results oriented, has a strong attention to detail and a combination of technical ability, email marketing experience, and collaboration skills.

  • This is a remote position that can be home-based anywhere within the United States. Please note, this is a full-time temporary position through February 2026 with the potential opportunity for an extension or conversion.***

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage email production processes, schedules, and overall ACS email communication calendar, including managing stakeholder expectations and communicating project plans.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on the strategic planning and execution of email communication plans to achieve email marketing and business KPIs -- including but not limited to meeting revenue goals, event registration, and mission content delivery.
  • Integrate with other marketing channels and campaigns to deliver a cohesive experience to American Cancer Society constituents.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of customer journeys
  • Track campaign effectiveness through email reporting and analysis and create ongoing data-driven approach for continuous improvement to email communication strategies.
  • Serve as in-house expert on email platform(s) and create/update training materials for local staff as needed. (Current platforms are Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Pardot.)
  • Stay current with continuing education and relevant certifications in marketing automation tools, serving as a resource to others as requirements change
  • Stay abreast of developments in email and fundraising best practices to help improve our existing programs.
  • Understand and adhere to US, EU and global privacy laws like CAN-SPAM.

FORMAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of standard email marketing methodologies, direct response fundraising strategies, data segmentation, A/B testing and performance analysis required
  • Salesforce and Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SMC) experience required
  • SMC Email Specialist certification required (certification can be completed upon hiring)
  • Experience with marketing automation required
  • Google Analytics experience required
  • Experience working with email tools within vendors like Movable Ink, Email on Acid, Return Path, etc.
  • Working knowledge of HTML required,
  • AMPScript and SQL experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of email marketing or digital marketing preferred
  • Experience with nonprofit required
  • Comfortable defining process through ambiguity; able to pivot to emerging business needs
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment

  • Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple assignments and deadlines, to prioritize assignments as necessary, and to work effectively under pressure.

SPECIALIZED TRAINING OR KNOWLEDGE

  • Understanding of nonprofit business strategies, digital marketing, and peer-to-peer fundraising tactics.
  • Demonstrated success in launching successful email campaigns.
  • Experience with marketing automation platforms

SPECIAL MENTAL OR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to work some evenings and weekends and some overnights. Attends work on a consistent, continual and punctual basis. Requires travel by air or car on occasion.

The starting rate is $63,000 to $75,000 annual. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
