About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer II to join our remote team operating within the Pacific Standard Time zone. This role is pivotal in supporting the development of our next-generation platform, focusing on backend engineering to facilitate scientific workflows related to genomic data analysis. The successful candidate will work within a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, designing and implementing robust APIs, data processing pipelines, and scalable backend services utilizing Java and Spring frameworks on AWS infrastructure. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on healthcare by developing reliable, high-performance software that drives genetic research and diagnostics. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in backend development, cloud architectures, and database design, with a passion for building systems that handle complex data at scale.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering with a focus on backend development
- Proficiency in Java and Spring frameworks
- Experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures
- Strong knowledge of cloud-based solutions, particularly AWS cloud services
- Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
- Familiarity with NoSQL technologies like MongoDB, DynamoDB, or Elastic Search
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
- Effective communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Experience in full-stack application development is a plus
- Experience in scientific, genomics, or healthcare-related applications is preferred
- Knowledge of deploying and managing cloud-native applications on public cloud platforms
Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and enhance applications built with React and Java/Spring frameworks to support scientific workflows such as variant identification, ranking, and reporting
- Collaborate closely with product managers and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services and APIs
- Implement best practices for software engineering, including code quality, automated testing, and security protocols
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex issues, resolve bugs efficiently, and improve overall system reliability
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and technical standards
- Participate in code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing within the team
- Other related duties as assigned to support project goals and organizational needs
