Our client is seeking a Senior Embedded Firmware/Software Engineer to support the design, development, and validation of embedded systems for high-performance connectivity products. This role is responsible for full lifecycle firmware development, including architecture, coding, testing, and deployment, with a strong emphasis on compliance with DO-178 standards and modern CI/CD practices.
This individual will serve as a subject matter expert in embedded systems and collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.
Key Highlights:
- Lead embedded firmware development across the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) in accordance with DO-178 standards
- Design, develop, and maintain firmware for high-speed communication and connectivity products
- Architect software systems including planning, documentation, and implementation
- Develop and maintain GitLab pipelines for CI/CD and automated testing
- Program and debug embedded systems using Arm Cortex and 16-bit PIC microcontrollers
- Implement and support serial communication protocols (RS485, SPI, I2C, CAN, ARINC 429/825, 1553)
- Develop and manage bootloaders, non-volatile memory, and EEPROM emulation
- Ensure cybersecurity compliance including secure boot, image verification, and NVM protection
- Utilize debugging tools such as JTAG and SWD to diagnose and resolve firmware issues
- Support software validation using tools like LabView, Python, Excel, and MATLAB/Octave
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5–7+ years of experience in embedded firmware/software development
- Strong expertise in embedded C programming and embedded systems architecture
- Experience with DO-178 development standards and compliance
- Proficiency with Git-based version control systems (GitLab preferred) and CI/CD pipelines
- Hands-on experience with debugging tools and methodologies for embedded systems
- Experience selecting and working with microcontrollers and embedded hardware
- Knowledge of MISRA-C standards and linting practices
- Strong understanding of firmware validation, testing, and documentation processes
- Experience with cybersecurity principles in embedded systems
- U.S. Citizenship required (ITAR, CUI, NOFORN compliance)
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with high-speed cable assemblies or data center technologies
- Familiarity with CMIS and SFF/IEEE specifications
- Experience with STM32 microcontrollers
- Exposure to Agile development methodologies
- Experience with Python, C#, or Visual Basic
- Background in Six Sigma or advanced data analytics
