About The Role

This role is for a Senior Engineer specializing in Backend development with Java at BlackRock, focusing on the Aladdin Engineering team within the Investments & Trading Engineering division. As a key contributor, you will be instrumental in building and enhancing the next-generation analytics and reporting systems that underpin BlackRock’s investment platform. Qualifications

Candidates should possess a strong educational background in Computer Science or a related field, with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in Java software development. Proven expertise in designing and implementing scalable, high-performance backend systems is essential. Strong knowledge of object-oriented design principles, data modeling, and database technologies, including relational and NoSQL databases, is required. Experience working with inter-process communication frameworks such as gRPC and REST, along with familiarity with multi-tier application architectures and distributed caching solutions, is highly desirable. Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills are necessary to coordinate effectively with global teams and stakeholders. Familiarity with software development lifecycle standards, including agile methodologies, test-driven development, and CI/CD practices, is expected. Additional skills in handling large-scale time series data, message streaming platforms like Kafka, and cloud technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform will be advantageous. A passion for continuous learning, innovative problem-solving, and applying AI-native tools to enhance development processes is highly valued.

Responsibilities

The Senior Backend Engineer will play a pivotal role within the Analytics & Compliance Engineering team, leading efforts to rearchitect and modernize critical components of BlackRock’s Aladdin platform. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying scalable, API-first solutions that enable advanced analytics and reporting capabilities. Leading a team of engineers, you will mentor junior staff, foster collaboration, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions. Your expertise will be essential in solving complex problems related to large-scale data systems, including data modeling, database optimization, and inter-process communication. You will work closely with product managers and stakeholders to understand requirements, translate them into technical designs, and implement robust solutions that meet performance and security standards. Additionally, you will leverage AI-native tools and methodologies to accelerate development cycles and improve operational efficiency. Your role will also involve deploying and operating software in production environments, monitoring system health, and implementing performance tuning measures to optimize system throughput and reliability.
