This Senior Software Engineer role is 100% remote, offering R1.5M – R1.6M per annum.

THE ROLE

As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Payment Integrations team, you’ll design and build Python-based services that connect the platform to alternative payment methods across Africa, including mobile money, regional gateways, and bank APIs.

The Responsibilities

Design and implement backend services in a fully serverless AWS environment (Lambda, API Gateway, S3)
Build and maintain integration services that interface with external payment providers via REST APIs
Implement resilient service patterns including idempotency, error handling, and retry mechanisms
Orchestrate real-time webhook flows and asynchronous event processing
Use MongoDB and MySQL to manage service state, configurations, and transaction metadata
Own the end-to-end software lifecycle from architecture and testing through deployment and monitoring
Ship production code via GitLab CI/CD with automated pipelines and staging environments

THE REQUIREMENTS

BSc in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent.

6+ years of backend development experience with a strong track record in cloud-based engineering.

Strong Python skills and deep experience with AWS (especially Lambda, API Gateway, and serverless architecture).

Experience working with MySQL and MongoDB in production environments.
