Job Description
We are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer with in-depth knowledge of real-time embedded software philosophies and practices. The candidate must be open to traveling to Northridge, CA for 5 days a week per month onsite. The role involves developing embedded software in assembly, C/C++, Rust, or other languages, and working with microcontrollers and hardware drivers.
- MUST HAVE RUST PROGRAMMING EXPERIENCE. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ON SITE 5 DAYS A WEEK in Northridge, CA, so LOCAL candidates preferred.
Responsibilities
- Develop embedded software in assembly, C/C++, Rust, or other languages.
- Work with microcontrollers, including hardware drivers.
- Debug kernel issues and exercise validation of the system from user space.
- Review schematics, logic analyzers, and use embedded software troubleshooting techniques.
- Work on low-level communications such as PCIe, Ethernet, SPI, and I2C.
- Develop and debug embedded software, ensuring fault tolerance and high reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers and systems architects.
- Handle middleware components and understand the architectural complexity of existing software systems.
- Support the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and debugging.
Essential Skills
- In-depth knowledge of real-time embedded software philosophies and practices.
- Knowledge of Linux kernel internals, including process scheduler, memory management, concurrency/synchronization, memory allocation, file systems, and networking subsystems architecture.
- Strong debugging skills in kernel and user space API.
- Experience with C++, Firmware, Linux, Driver Development, Embedded Software, and Software Development.
- Proficiency in Rust programming for software development.
- Experience with GIT for version control and Visual Studio Code or similar IDE.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar field.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on at least one programming language (preferably Rust or C++).
- 5+ years of experience in the full software development lifecycle.
- 1+ years of hands-on experience developing software in Rust.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Professional experience at a FAANG company or a comparable tech industry leader.
- Experience in developing networking devices that include data and control plane components, preferably with protocols relevant to satellite communications or similar industries.
- Full stack embedded development experience, including low-level programming, hardware/software integration, and application software development.
- Proven track record of working in cross-functional teams.
Work Environment
The role requires onsite presence in Northridge, CA for 5 days a week per month. Remote candidates must support a PST schedule. The candidate will be working with technologies such as assembly, C/C++, Rust, microcontrollers, hardware drivers, and various low-level communication protocols.
