About the Role
Jouster.com is seeking a freelance Technical Advisor / Interviewer to support its engineering hiring process. We’re building three lean product teams (3 engineers + 1 product lead each) and have over 100 engineering candidates in the pipeline. We need an experienced technical interviewer to lead candidate evaluations and ensure we bring in top-tier senior engineers.
This is a short-term, high-impact role designed for someone who enjoys vetting technical talent, leading live coding sessions, and supporting early-stage hiring for startups.
Responsibilities
- Conduct technical interviews for senior software engineer candidates
- Run live coding sessions to assess real-time problem-solving and coding ability
- Evaluate candidate performance in alignment with this role spec
- Prepare and ask role-relevant technical questions, including system design and architecture
- Deliver clear, written interview feedback with hire/no-hire recommendations
- Advise the founder on technical team composition and hiring decisions when needed
- Collaborate asynchronously with a globally distributed team
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering
- Strong experience in Python (Golang is a plus)
- Experience conducting technical interviews, especially for senior-level roles
- Comfortable assessing backend system design, architecture, and clean code practices
- Understanding of early-stage startup needs and lean team dynamics
- Fluent English communication skills—both verbal and written
- Based in Asia or Europe preferred, but open to global talent with overlap
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with AI/ML workflows or experience working on technical products in early-stage startups
- Previous experience helping non-technical founders with hiring and vetting engineers
- Ability to support ad hoc technical advisory beyond interviews, if needed
