Car of Tomorrow is a media company creating an interactive, browser-based music game for children. This game aims to engage young users in exploring and recreating renowned musical compositions through arranging and playing orchestral audio samples. We are seeking a seasoned Senior TypeScript Developer to review and enhance our existing prototype, initially built with Next.js, TypeScript, and the Web Audio API, and to deliver targeted improvements for a planned September launch.
Responsibilities
- Set up and configure a local development environment within the client’s broader technical framework.
- Review and audit the existing Next.js and TypeScript codebase to identify technical risks, bugs, and performance issues.
- Enhance and extend browser-based audio functionality using the Web Audio API.
- Implement targeted features, including dynamic song and audio asset loading, ensuring accurate audio timing, looping, sequencing, and playback.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues affecting gameplay, browser compatibility, or audio performance.
- Maintain clean, reliable, and well-documented code.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Support additional front-end improvements where relevant and within the developer’s skill set.
Required Skills
- Strong professional experience with TypeScript.
- Extensive experience building applications with Next.js and React.
- Hands-on experience with the Web Audio API.
- Experience developing browser-based audio, music, or interactive media applications.
- Understanding of core audio and music concepts like timing, loops, beats, sequencing, and playback.
- Proven ability to review, debug, and enhance existing codebases.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience building educational, children’s, or interactive media products.
- Familiarity with browser-based games or other real-time interactive applications.
- Knowledge of audio performance optimization and cross-browser compatibility.
- Experience with orchestral samples, sound libraries, or digital music tools.
- Front-end UI development and responsive design experience.
- Experience integrating standalone applications into larger websites or content platforms.
