Senior HTML Parsing Expert Developer - Part-time - Worldwide

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced developer to help build robust HTML parsers capable of handling a wide variety of SEC filing formats. The project involves extracting structured data—particularly financial tables along with their headers and footers—from complex HTML filings submitted to the SEC's EDGAR system.

Key Responsibilities:

• Parse and extract textual and tabular data from SEC filings in HTML format (see sample document below).
• Accurately capture associated table headers, footnotes, and contextual metadata.
• Handle inconsistencies in formatting, tag nesting, and non-standard layouts across thousands of documents. Deep understanding of DOM structure, tag irregularities, and embedded table logic.
• Process and normalize output into structured formats (e.g., CSV, JSON, converting tables to Images).

Requirements:

• Strong experience with HTML parsing libraries in Python, JavaScript, or similar languages.
• Familiarity with parsing other document formats beyond HTML (specially PDFs) will be also preferred.
• Experience working with large-scale document pipelines (we plan to process over 100,000 filings, dating back to 2000).
• Familiarity with AWS for scalable processing and storage.
• Proficiency with GitHub or GitLab workflows.
• At least 6 hours of working overlap with Western European time zones.
• Prior experience with SEC EDGAR filings is strongly preferred.
